The Communist Control Act of 1954 was passed into federal law, to combat the Communist Party of the United States.

The CPUSA was labeled an illegitimate party, that was the arm of a foreign conspiracy, seeking to overthrow the US government. Sound familiar?

Roseanne Milburn, 61, of Winnipeg, had a routine procedure turn into an amputation — not because the surgery failed, but because Canada’s government-run system couldn’t find her a bed.

A surgeon at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre removed dead tissue from her knee, then sent her to Concordia Hospital with the plan to bring her back that same day so a specialist could stitch the wound (CBC News). She was never brought back.

There was no bed at HSC. So she sat at Concordia with an 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬, waiting for the system to make room.

By the time a bed opened, the wound had rotted past saving. The doctors told her the leg couldn’t be salvaged. On a Friday in December, Roseanne Milburn lost her 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐠 — over a missing hospital bed.

This is not a freak accident. It is the predictable output of a system that rations care by making people wait.

In 2025, the median Canadian waited 𝟐𝟖.𝟔 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 from a GP referral to actual treatment (Fraser Institute). For orthopedic surgery — the exact category Milburn needed — the median wait is 𝟒𝟖.𝟔 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬. Nearly a full year. By design.

That is 222 percent longer than the 9.3-week wait Canadians faced in 1993 (Fraser Institute). The system isn’t getting better. It’s getting slower — and the waiting list itself becomes the rationing mechanism.

Defenders call it “𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦”. It is not free. Roseanne Milburn paid for it. She paid with her leg.

Every politician selling “𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘭𝘭” is selling this — the bed that never opens, the specialist who never comes, the wound that turns black while a bureaucrat shuffles a list.

That’s why the property tax debate @GovRonDeSantis has started is one worth having. Agree or disagree on the solution, but don’t dodge the question underneath it: why is the cost of government outrunning the people it serves by more than ten to one?

"Begin with an initial raising of the homestead limit to $250,000 for all Florida homesteaders."

$250K limit = the first $250,000 value of a home is $0 TAXED

Then the plan is to raise it to $500,000, which gives over 90% of Florida homeowners $0 IN TAXES 🔥

"A $250,000 limit, that eliminates property tax for 60% of Florida homeowners. Justice Clarence Thomas took a blowtorch to the 8 Supreme Court Justices who established the despicable “separate but equal” doctrine in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896 that sanctioned racial segregation.

Justice Thomas says they acted with “cowardice.”

“It could not have taken my Court sixty years to know that Plessy was a hideous wrong and that racial segregation was grossly incompatible with our colorblind Constitution.

The Justices must have known it all along.

The right thing to do, as Justice Harlan spelled out in his lone dissent at the time, was obvious as it so often is.

What stood in the way was cowardice.

The Justices were afraid of the societal consequences.

They were afraid of coming under political fire.

They were afraid that, if they began to enforce a colorblind Constitution, they would have to address interracial marriage next.

So, for sixty disgraceful years, they made American children like me grow in racial caste system because it was easier to do nothing than do the right thing.”

Because the Justices used social science (the infamous doll study) to strike down racial segregation in schools in Brown, rather than on an equal protection clause basis, the Court delayed striking down anti-miscegenation laws until 1967, another disgraceful episode.

THAT is why Justice Thomas has criticized Brown. In his view, the Supreme Court should have struck down those disgraceful laws on equal protection grounds, echoing the Declaration’s promise that all men are created equal.

In Justice Thomas’s view, the Justices hid behind social science out of fear of reaffirming the simple truth that all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights.

This is why Justice Thomas does not give a damn about judicial precedent. He has personally felt the lash of a barbaric ruling and there was no reason whatsoever to give it any deference. And he believes there are many cases like this.

Justice Thomas’s courage to take as his guiding light the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution without any regard to the barnacles that have attached to these documents is why he is our nation’s greatest Justice.
