Kaur | ਕੌਰ | کور
Kaur is not just a name - it is sovereignty.
Bestowed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, it freed every daughter from caste, clan, and silence.
Kaur means princess - not in weakness, but in dignity and strength.
It is the crown of equality, declaring every Sikh woman fearless and free.
A Kaur bows to none but Waheguru.
Her worth is not borrowed from father or husband - it is her own, granted by the Guru.
To be Kaur is to walk with grace, speak with courage, and live as sovereign.
Today marks 30 years since the disappearance and shaheedi (martyrdom) of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra.
Bhai Khalra courageously exposed the illegal abductions, killings, and secret cremations of thousands of Sikh youth by the Punjab Police during the 1980s and '90s. In 1995, the year of his shaheedi, he was invited to Canada by WSO to present his findings on human rights abuses in Punjab to the Canadian government.
His work shook the system. The then-Superintendent of Police in Tarn Taran, Ajit Sandhu, chillingly remarked:
"If 25,000 have disappeared, it will be easy to make one more disappear."
On September 6, 1995, Bhai Khalra was abducted from his home in Amritsar by plainclothes officers. He endured weeks of torture and was murdered on October 27, 1995.
Bhai Khalra once described himself as a single candle lighting the darkness. Through his sacrifice, countless more candles have been lit through every voice demanding justice.
Santokh | ਸੰਤੋਖ | سنتوش
Contentment is not having everything - it is knowing you already have enough.
It is the quiet joy of a heart that no longer measures life by what is missing.
Santokh is the strength to step off the endless treadmill of desire.
It is choosing to slow down when the world tells you to run faster.
It is finding fullness in half a meal, comfort in a small home, and wealth in the company of those who love you.
True Santokh is not laziness or lack of ambition - it is ambition without greed, progress without envy. It is moving forward without the constant ache of not enough.
Santokh is the shield against the hunger that consumes the soul. It is the whisper that says: What you have now, someone else is praying for.
When you have santokh, you stop bargaining with God for more and start thanking Him for already giving you more than you deserve.
And in that state, you discover the greatest secret:
The richest person is not the one who has the most - it is the one who needs the least.
