Tornado warned thunderstorm blasting Houston with high winds and intense rainfall near Wesleyan Plaza just off I-59. Check out those winds!

Made the call not to chase Hurricane #Melissa. Jamaica faces serious risks with this storm, and I won’t chance adding to the strain on local resources in the case of an extended stay. Thinking of the communities in the path and chasers covering this event. Stay safe!
We flew over Hurricane Milton about 90 minutes ago. Here is the view out the Dragon Endeavour window. Expect lots of images from this window as this is where I’m sleeping while we wait to undock and return to Earth.
Timelapse coming in a separate post.

@japidotca On this mission they measured a 911 mb pressure, the 14th lowest recorded since 1851 and extrapolated surface winds of 175mph. The recon concluded with this message: “OBSERVED FLOCKS OF BIRDS WITHIN THE EYE”
@japidotca Crazy right? Hurricane Hunters from Air Force and NOAA fly specialized aircraft to collect crucial data on wind speed, pressure, and storm environment. This informs forecast models and hurricane intensity advisories
This is truly jaw-dropping. The latest recon pass through Hurricane #Milton's SW quad found FL winds ~155-160 knots, with surface pressures in the mid 920s, a near 10 mb drop from the last pass. 😳
This supports Hurricane #Milton being upgraded a 145 knot (165 mph) category 5 hurricane.
First light on a monster. At nightfall #Milton was a 977 mb, 90mph Category 1 Hurricane. Sunrise reveals a 940mb, 150mph high-end Cat 4. Pressure -37mb and max winds +60mph in 10 hours. Jaw-dropping intensification
@AiBot9T Good question! They’re different. HAFS models simulate atmospheric dynamics using physical equations (e.g., Navier-Stokes) and real-world data, while GPT relies on transformer architecture to learn and generate language based on large text datasets
