Holy shit i only just now realized that twitch's smart notifications had determined that i wasn't interested in getting notifs about *anyone* i follow and that's why I've felt like people i follow are never streaming when I have free time
I am not exaggerating when I say the first thing that happens after the opening titles is you see a cockroach fuck another cockroach from behind, before they're both crushed in a burst of over the top gore.
Truly I can't imagine a modern movie doing stuff like this? At least not as unironically and realistically as this movie does. Its just a small touch that brings the characters and situation down to earth. It's kinda silly yeah but it adds realism in a casual, natural way.
Rewatched Alien last night and saw Aliens for the first time. Awesome movies. Unironically love that a major plot point of the 1st is that the crew owns a cat, and so the crew has to do normal cat owner shit while trying to survive the alien.
Like there's a sequence where...
...everyone else is DEAD and the ship is self destructing and theres an alien prowling around and Ripley still stops on her way to the escape shuttle to scoop the cat up and put him in a little carrier. Like SAME bestie exactly what I'd do.
And then later she calls him a shithead
Side note, the Darth Maul cameo also baffles me because, if you WERE an EU fan, you already KNEW he was alive at this time, and that he dies again in one of the cartoons that takes place before episode IV. What was even the plan for him in future movies
Out of nowhere remembered how, from a movie-only Star Wars fan's perspective, Darth Maul turbo-died in Episode 1, inexplicably was revealed to be alive at the very end of Solo, a movie that had none of the characters or plot threads from Episode 1, and then never appeared again.
The prequels also had a ton of bizarre cameos but to their credit always either actually had them contribute to the plot (Boba and Jango are a massive part of Episode 2) or be a small minor bit of innocuous worldbuilding (Jabba being on tatooine in episode 1 for 5 seconds).
