Remembering this Brave Son of India- Brigadier Mohammad Usman,MVC, Commander 50 (Independent) Parachute Brigade, who laid down his life for the mother land on this day in 1948 in J&K. Feel Proud and honoured to have commanded 'The Brigade' nurtured by this legendary patriot.

I have an incredible level of respect, sometimes quite blinkered, for officers who have served in India’s armed forces. This is part of my fauji family ‘conditioning’ if you want to call it that and also based on my appreciation of what service to the nation really meant for officers and experience of what this meant for their families. But I was also lucky to grow up in a ‘fauji mahaul’ in which you understood that service to the nation was not a guarantee of intelligence or any real appreciation or understanding on strategic issues facing the country. I don’t generally air my views on these issues because I know I am not an expert and have never served but I have to say it is really painful to see some former senior officers speak irresponsibly and mislead the rest of the country on security issues.
