Why does this research matter? It's really quite common for folks to have #ADHD, manage before college due to environment, support, and other factors, and then have everything go up in flames with the new systems, schedules, lack of support, and etc. found at university.
I am beyond excited to announce @prntgdcolonized and I are partnering to bring a conscious parenting virtual summit specifically for families of color facing mental illness and developmental disability. If you are interested in being a speaker or panelist, fill out the form
Another tip for organizations, if all your DEI people in house are white, you're not doing it right. This firm's main DEI point folks were white or white passing. This did not create a safe environment for me, as I am a deeply self-aware racialized woman.

Last year I wrote one of my most important threads. It's a roadmap for any reporter or any group of people who live in any city that has a city council or a police department or a journalist. There are basic questions you can organize to ask local leaders:
You can hate on a Black Ms Columbia if you want but the haters left the chat with this walk. 😊

📖STORYTIME:
Y'all, my ass and legs are on
F 🔥 I 🔥 R 🔥 E.
It was for a good cause. Let me explain. 😅😭
So I'm dropping my son off at school this morning and I wave to my fellow PTA peeps and to the kids (as interim prez, it's critical 👔). We were joking about still being able to do the stuff we did as kids, but as grown folks with body pain, extra weight, and everything else. 😭
So one little guy (who seems to have it out for me since I beat his mom regularly at game night), yells at full volume to my son:
🗣️🗣️🗣️"MY MOM IS FASTER THAN YOUR MOM AND YOUR MOM IS CHUBBY SO SHE'S NOT FAST."
Me: " I bet she is fast just like you!"
(trying to be parental and mature even though I wanna moosh him down the grassy knoll 🌚)
My son steps up like an absolute bat outta hell, snatches his jacket off, gives me a kiss then yells:
"MY MAMA IS CHUBBY BUT SHE WINS ALL THE TIME SHUT YOUR MOUTH BRO AND LOOK AT HER HAIR"
(of course I scream laughing at him confirming my BMI prior to being ready to scrap for my honor 🤣)
We all cackle and separate the kids. Then out of nowhere the mom looks at me and says: "you wanna race? loser handles the rest of the meetings for the year and brings snacks. We could run to the end of the parking lot."
Now Miss Thing is thick, but smaller than me still. We both have work clothes on, but sneakers because old bad bitches wear comfortable shoes on busy work days, LMAO. I realized I had taken my iron and had a muffin. I felt healthy. I HATE those damn 7pm meetings. She thought it was a sure win for her.
I SAID YES and immediately remove anything that's not aerodynamic.
We told the kids to line up fast before the bell rang, and me and her line up. She left her shoes on. I took mine OFF.
I prayed to the spirit of my bodybuilder father to let his genes make me superior in this moment and tell him through telekinesis he owes me. LMAO
I have sciatica.
I'm a size 22.
I had control top panties on today.
My Zoom earrings.
I'm nearsighted to the core.
Everything was playing against me.
We lined up and the principal blew his whistle.
😩 BEASTMODE KINDA ACTIVATED 😩
My daddy had to be listening because Miss Thing FUCKING TRIPPED. I didn't ask if she was okay. FUCK that. 😮💨😅
I HAULED OFF. NO TAKE BACKS. YOU CHOSE GRIPS AND SHOES.
I CHOSE NATURE AND FLAT ARCHES.
I could feel my hair blowing and wondered if I had secured it well enough for this bullshit. My hoops dangled. The Jesus on my rosary got the ride of his fucking life. I heard her SCREAMING that she was coming for me. 😠
I asked myself what Sha'Carri Richardson would do and I (THINK) I went faster 😭😭😭. I hit the end of the parking lot and screamed like in the Color Purple when they separated Celine and Nettie.
My adrenaline was pumping.
My son ran up and hugged and kissed me, then hit a schmoney dance. I followed.
She congratulated me and I pulled the grass off her knees.
I fucking won. 😤
But not really because BITCH, I LOST. My shit is on FUEGO. FIRE. FLAMES. My body hasn't felt that kind of intensity in years. I'm certain I need professional medical something, but for now, I'mma soak these heavy ass thighs and bask in my glory.
My son thinks I'm a legend today.
He doesn't know, that now that I sat down, I won't be able to get back up.
But I fucking did it. No more night PTA meetings. The little chubby girl who saw me win, gave me a fist bump WITH explosion.
Just for today, I AM A FUCKING ATHLETE.
Tomorrow? Might have to order a wheelchair.

@StaceyVaughn @heymrsbond Dual enrollment programs can save money. Kids need to be prepared, though. Having a kid in a college course when they need more work on foundational skills doesn't serve anyone.
@StaceyVaughn @heymrsbond Right -- what is the rush? Where I live, some parents are disappointed if their kids don't get recommended to algebra in 6th or 7th grade. Then the kids struggle because they needed more to solidify what they learned about the basics.
