"The people (of Ferghana)...have...many good horses. The horses sweat blood and come from the stock of the 'heavenly horse'" - Zhang Qian
@photofinishgame
Exaclty one month ago today, I bought my first horse to play @photofinishgame - JFK, the A+ foal below (he begins racing finally next season, which starts later this month).
Since then... well, this is a story for newbies considering whether to join the game or not:
The big takeaway here at the top: In one month, I've netted $2,216.27, including $CROWN distributions with every race, along with my winnings.
To put that into perspective, I've spent a cumulative $4,201.50 on horses. But only 6 of my 12 horses are racers (the other 6 are foals).
So, my net winnings are more accurately compared to the $2,566.37 I've spent on my 6 racers. Thus, in one month, I have nearly recouped my entire investment in those 6 racers. And today, I could sell them for a handsome profit. I was buying A-, A, A+ racers at between 16,789 $DERBY and 34,650. Lowest price for a racer right now: 60,000 $DERBY (which is fucking insane!).
My record: My horses have run 87 races cumulatively. I have 6 wins, 11 places, 10 shows... a 31% podium rate. But to be fair about it, there is a learning curve early on (meaning you pick the wrong races just to play and learn). Moreover, I have been running less-than-ideal races simply to collect the $CROWN (in the month I've been collecting $CROWN, the token has pushed to $0.70 from slightly less than $0.30, so running less-than-ideal races is a strategic decision that has generated a big payoff of nearly $3,000 so far).
I've also placed 4th 9x and 5th 3x in terms of races in which I collected winnings even though my horse didn't make the podium. So all in, my horses are collecting $DERBY in 44.8% of the races I enter. I'm good with that for now. Once the $CROWN gravy train ends, I will focus more dogmatically on selecting the best possible prototype races for each horse, meaning my podium percentage "should" improve. For now, though, running down to collect $CROWN is a far wiser approach.
My biggest expense so far: Buying an A- filly foal with 7.5 stars for 73,500 $DERBY, or roughly $920. (And I'm in the market for another one when the next foal sale rolls around later this month). You gotta think longer term in this game, and having a high-star filly somewhere in the A class is going to lead to breeding opportunities later - mating with some higher-grade studs to build up my stable of A, A+, maybe even S- horses to race and/or sell into the marketplace for another source of income.
Not everything has been rainbows and unicorn farts, of course. Like a dumbass, I entered an S- horse in a 50k claiming race, certain no one would claim him.
Someone claimed him.
I'm a fucktard!
And I've struggled with some horses in terms of dialing them in. They refuse to run to form in races that are built specifically to their prototype. I've also found it challenging at times to find the perfect, prototype race without having to wait for days. And asking a @photofinishgame gamer to wait a few days is like telling a crackwhore to wait until next month to sate that toothless monkey on her back. So, I race down for the $CROWN ... and the fix.
But like I said, there's a learning curve here, and hopefully my posts and my videos help you get involved with the game, and to understand it better if you're on the sidelines looking in and wondering if you should take the leap.
Yes, take the leap!
I promise you're gonna love this game and the strategy involved.
And that's my one-month anniversary in @photofinishgame. I share this with newbies because I want you to know the truth from someone who has lived it and who will tell you the good, the bad, and the fucktardedness straight up.

Will have to turn to the marketplace again soon in search of an RDF mare or two for when these colts are ready to retire after long racing campaigns. Show me what you’ve got
Silk Road Stables are pleased to welcome 3 new additions to the stable this season. We were light on group racers so we put that right this season with the purchase of 3 S colts primed to dominate the race tracks in a couple seasons time

That's right, as Season 8 just began, horse sales ranked 7th in volume as a platform compared to ALL blockchains in the last 24 hours.
This volume ranks #8 across ALL NFT collections, ahead of massive ETH projects like @cryptopunks , @DeGodsNFT, and many more.

@BigBrainStables That’s nice to hear! Just not a worthwhile endeavour as it stands currently. Hope that changes in the future. I’d certainly find the time again if we were getting big time pool sizes
No preview for tonight’s major race. Seems as though there’s a lack of interest in them as evidenced by disappointing pool sizes of recent majors. Hope that changes in the near future. We’re still early but have been underwhelmed by the wagering interest in the game thus far.
