“That the world has made substantial progress but nevertheless still has a long way to go is the case for many of the world’s very large problems. The world is much better, the world is awful, and the world can be much better.” 👌https://t.co/AsVgLyeHk7
@samerbagaeen @lewis_goodall This could have many reasons. The UK had a higher positive rate than France, indicating more missed cases. Maybe in the UK many more cases were among the most vulnerable (e.g. care homes) compared to France. Then, the way Covid@deaths are counted,....
@ItsAndyRyan A former colleague from a Mediterranean country insisted that central/northern European diets are less healthy because butter contains more fat than olive oil. When I asked how much fat they thought olive oil had, their best guess was 20%.
An important reminder for all of us applying statistics to noisy real world data. As much as we like *** and narrow CIs, as little meaning do they have without a convincing narrative and meticulous robustness checks.
21st of December ... here's my #stats advents calendar:
In case you learned that a 95% confidence interval (e.g., [0.3,0.6] for some true parameter) is interpreted like: "With probability 0.95 the true parameter is between 0.3 and 0.6", then STOP IT 🛑! It's wrong! ❌
