Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, is facing a class-action lawsuit in California over claims that it violated labor laws.
According to an amended complaint filed by a former QA lead, the lawsuit alleges a “systematic pattern of wage and hour violations.”
The claims include:
>unpaid overtime
>missed meal and rest breaks
>late wage payments
>unreimbursed work expenses
>inaccurate pay statements.
The proposed class covers non-exempt employees who worked for Obsidian in California since October 2021. The lawsuit seeks compensation, penalties, and legal costs.
And ofc Obsidian has denied the accusations. In its response, the company rejected the claims and asked the court to dismiss the case.
According to former Obsidian co-founder Chris Avellone, a sequel to Avowed is already in early development.
Avellone says veteran RPG designer George Ziets is leading the project. Ziets previously worked on games like Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer and Pillars of Eternity.
He also claims Josh Sawyer is involved in a similar way to the first game, while Carrie Patel is not directing the sequel.
I know one studio XBOX should close:
Today it came out that Outer Worlds 2 had a budget of 100M. It's likely Avowed was similar.
Both games sold poorly.
Meanwhile they endorse their Art Director saying things like this:
This is Clockwork Revolution.
An extended look at just one conversation, with moral choice, and deep reactivity that will follow you through time. Screwing someone over may have far-reaching and unexpected consequences.
The guys at @Inxile have given me something awesome to show you! 👀
Clockwork Revolution, their upcoming narrative-heavy RPG (where choices make big changes) is coming out SOON! I can't wait to jump in myself. These guys are COOKING! Check out the vid!
I wanted to give a shout out to my team on @ClockworkGame. Making a game like ours is hard work, and we have a group of people who are dedicated to making something great. I feel extraordinarily lucky to be a part of this team.
I asked what you want in the next trailer and the biggest ask was true choice & consequence. So let me answer that one now:
Yes. Macro and micro reactivity, wildly different endings.
We made Wasteland 3. Check it out to see how deep we go. It's our DNA. Don't fear the camera move.
For everyone asking: Clockwork Revolution will be available on PC, Xbox, and Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine.
We just make the games. We’ll leave the platform math to the punch cards.
That's always the challenge because we have extremely deep choice and consequence all the way to the very end where there's a tremendous amount of different end states and we'd love to show the depth, but at the same time, not spoil anything.
