@philly_weekly@LocBoyJC@EaglesGoldenEr4 Guess we have different definitions of corny lol showing how street he is wasn’t even the point either. But I digress.
@Mr4thAndLong More deflection won’t help out your history on the subject my boy. You been tweeting bad about CP like a high school girl who gossips to get attention.
Have a great Friday too🙏🏽
It’s trash and lazy. It’s obvious we need to get better on defense but unproductive tweets like this and others like it are nauseating.
Discuss adjustments you’d like to see. Adjustments you’ve seen that you’d like to see more of. What you think is going wrong and what can be fixed. But that takes even the slightest of effort to do. Microwave media not built for that.
Almost like an established system matters. Vance Joseph (a seasoned veteran DC when he went to Denver) had the 28th overall defense in 2023 when he took over that unit his first year. We’ll never get there if we keep changing DCs every year.
Either way, comparing an established system vs the first 5 games of a young DC is crazy.
2022 1-6 Lions had a defensive players only meeting and ended up finishing 9-8 and making the playoffs.
2024 Texans started 0-4 and had an all players meeting and ended up 10-7 and made it to the divisional round.
There are other examples of both team and defensive player only meetings with huge turnarounds, just as there are examples of teams not doing anything good after them. It’s a case by case basis but it shouldn’t be looked at as an automatic kill shot, or a guarantee to turn around.
@Howbtdemcowboys 2023 when he joined as a seasoned vet he had the 28th ranked total defense and turned it around in a few years. Hope the same for our guys lol
Checks out. We ran directly into Todd Bowles run blitzes far too often last Thursday on 1st and 2nd down. If this is how defenses are attacking early downs, you might as well take intermediate and deep shots in spots of the game on early downs. Other spots stress the perimeters with screens and quick game to get cheap yards. 2nd and 3-6 to go is where I’d establish run and play action.
#Cowboys OC Klayton Adams spoke about some new defensive tactics emerging in the NFL:
“I think with the new kickoff rules and with the ball kind of freely moving in between the 30s and kickers now, when you get to the logo, you got a shot at kicking a field goal. You know, one of the things that we said in the off season is that defenses were going to start getting much more aggressive in normal down and distance, and see if they can create a negative play and put you in the second-and-long, and then make it try to make you play third down two times in a row; that's totally held up, and we're seeing a lot of that. We're also seeing teams being much more upfield on the edge. Some of it is kind of calculated risk that I think defensive play callers are trying to take to see if they can set you back on first down, and so it's it's been you know an adaptation to some of the things that that we're looking to do.
@mannycg7@dcboys27@R_Brown92 Have you went back and watched any of the games from last year? Lol metrics be damned that defense last year was far worse. Only thing I’d say 2025 D is better at is finishing sacks because that’s obviously a huge problem. But even pressure rate is better this year.
I truly believe this is about players holding themselves accountable and they are being coached better than what they are showing. This is about the third time I can name that Quinnen is disappointed in his own play, as well as the entire defense, but trusts they will get better. When players don’t trust their coaches anymore, they don’t think they can actually turn anything around. That matters.
Cowboys DT Quinnen Williams was the one who called the players-only meeting on Monday. He chose to keep the message from that meeting to himself, but he did take accountability for the defense’s start:
“I take full personally responsibility for it. I look in the mirror at myself and know that I need to do better, play better. I take full accountability and I’m fully responsible for where this defense is going at the moment. I took a break this weekend and reset to learn and grow and focus on getting better.”
@kneupper@derekeagleton Gannon the only veteran DC in that list and it can be debated whether or not he’s considered a successful DC. Not saying I disagree but it’s still a debate.
@JohnOwning Probably setting up more of the 3-3-5 package look with Pettine in the building. He has enough versatility and instinct at MLB to function as both
