NATO and Failure to Admit Past Mistakes

▪The West keeps ignoring the root causes of the security crisis in Europe while twisting the commitments it made on NATO's eastward expansion.

▪Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the OSCE guiding principles, the indivisibility of security and the commitment not to bolster security at the expense of others, underpin military and political stability across Europe.

▪Statement by Ms. Iulia Zhdanova, Head of the Delegation of the Russian Federation to the Vienna Negotiations on Military Security and Arms Control, at the 1142nd plenary meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation:

NATO members are turning a blind eye to these principles. They have chosen instead to pursue military dominance and expand their reach, no longer just in Europe, but into Asia as well. The documentary record leaves no doubt as to their responsibility for the deepest security crisis in recent history. This crisis triggered by their overweening geopolitical ambitions and strive to undermine Russia have plunged the OSCE region and the Organization as a whole into an abyss.

NATO's neo-colonial arrogance, its refusal tosee or hear, has repeatedly eclipsed the principles enshrined in the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, the 1994 Code of Conduct, the 1999 Charter for European Security and other core CSCE/OSCE documents. Determined to impose a 'rules-based order', the West has driven multiple waves of NATO expansion,waged a ruthless war on Yugoslavia in 1999 and trampled on the sovereignty of independent states. Now it is using Ukraine as a tool to inflict a 'strategic defeat' on Russia on the battlefield. But such efforts are bound to collapse.These moves reveal not only Western contempt for the 'letter and spirit of the law,' but also pose a serious risk of a'great war' breaking out across the OSCE space.
