Five years today, Tope Ajogbajesu left the stage and never returned. Since that painful day, the Ajogbajesu family has never been the same.

From ConsoliJesu to Àwa Lọ Lọ Pẹ̀, Winners, Overcomers, Achievers, Erin Ayọ̀, and many other timeless songs, the Ajogbajesu Twins blessed the gospel music scene with a unique sound that can never be forgotten.

Their song preludes, acapella introductions, and vocal harmony were simply exceptional. Even today, very few gospel artistes come close to the prelude and acapela of Adegbodu Twins and the Ajogbajesu in the Nigerian gospel music. It is heartbreaking that the Adegbodu Twins also lost one of their own.

Many of the gospel songs people sing or remix today were first made popular by these gifted duos during the glorious days of Bisi Voice Records and Bayowa Films & Records International.

I will always cherish the memories of sharing the stage with them during the golden era of NTA Ibadan Network Centre, alongside Aunty Funmilayo Ilesanmi, who was the publicist of Bisi Voice at the time. Those moments remain unforgettable.

I can never forget the day the sad news broke. I was on air at Sweet FM Abeokuta when I received the heartbreaking news of Tope’s passing. Though I finished my radio programme, my heart was no longer there. Immediately after the show, I raced back to Ibadan. It was one of those moments you wish was only a bad dream.

Thinking about them also reminds me of other beloved twins like the Osadipe Twins and the Lijadu Sisters. Losing one half of such iconic duos changes everything, but their music continues to live on. Classics like "Orere Elejigbo" will never fade.

Tope Ajogbajesu Abarimu may no longer be with us physically, but he lives on in our hearts and in the songs that continue to bless lives.

As we remember him today, I pray for all twins, especially those bringing joy to us through music and entertainment. May God keep and preserve them. May they live long, fulfil their purpose, and never be taken away too soon.
