OK, @mtracey has a lot of counterintuitive takes, some of which are interesting and often contrary to the popular view, but this one is just completely wrong on every level. My point here is not to trash him; let me give you a lawyer explainer about why
When you kill three children in a row, it is not overzealous for the prosecutors to bring first-degree murder charges. Michael has criticized us for assuming her guilt immediately, but what he’s doing by saying the charges shouldn’t have been brought is assuming her legal innocence immediately. But for the mental capacity argument, this would be a straight up first-degree murder case. It’s absolutely premeditated and it’s got multiple victims. There’s nothing unusual about this charge. The job of a jury is to sort it out; you don’t take it off the table at the threshold when there’s evidence potentially supporting a first-degree charge. It would be insanely unusual if the prosecutors did anything else.
The emotional manipulation tactics he talks about, include showing pictures of the dead children. She saw their bodies, because she killed them. The determination here is whether she understood right from wrong. A jury can certainly consider what she saw with her own eyes when assessing whether she understood right from wrong. A jury is perfectly within its rights to believe that someone like Lindsay Clancy could not possibly look at those bodies and not understand that Dewing that was wrong. You may disagree with that conclusion, but it’s not an unreasonable conclusion to draw.
To the extent there is emotion attached to the photos, yes that’s true. There’s always going to be emotion attached to the murder of three children. The test is generally, whether the probative value of the evidence is outweighed by the potential prejudice. Evidence is not prejudicial simply because it tends to support guilt. Prejudice is an unfair and inappropriate reliance on emotion to overcome fact. It is not offered to say that this was very horrible so you should believe she did it. She does not dispute that she did it. Here, what she saw is directly an issue as to the issue she raised – her mental capacity. Almost every murder case shows photographs of the victim(s).
So, far from being unusual, this murder case is being handled exactly the same way as tens of thousands of murder cases that came before it. The limited nature of this case, where the issue is not whether she strangle those kids but her mental capacity when doing so, further supports admission of this relevant evidence.
I’m not out to trash Micheal. Sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don’t. But he’s just wrong here. And, like the jurors, you should weigh our arguments and evidence and come to your own conclusion.
This is the worst thing I’ve ever read, but it’s entirely true and accurate. For anyone who has expressed even the faintest sympathy for Lindsay Clancy: this is what you’re sympathizing with. This is what it actually means, in real life, to strangle 3 children to death. This is what that scene would have looked like. This is the level of raw unbridled soulless evil required to do what Clancy did. Read this and tell me this woman doesn’t deserved to be convicted and then strapped to an electric chair.
Just bought a 32 inch flat screen television for my son’s dorm room. It cost $88. Flat screen televisions may be the greatest price success story in capitalistic history. They’re close to free now, but cost thousands of dollars a generation ago. Has any price fallen faster?
My husband traveled quite a bit when our children were younger. He happened to be out of town one week when I got horribly sick. I didn’t realize I was that sick until the night I was up with our infant daughter and I was so feverish that I was struggling to take care of her. I had no one to call as my whole family lived in other states. We also had a four year old at the time who was going to be up in a few hours needing care. I mustered all of the strength I had to get my baby fed, changed and back in her crib before crawling into my own bed. It was one of my hardest moments as a young mother but I did it because it had to be done.
Even that experience isn’t as remotely as hard as what generations of mothers have had to endure throughout history. They just got it done because there was no other choice.
This trend of mothers filming themselves with their babies and the “I am Lindsay” slogan is incomprehensible to me. Most aren’t even talking about PPD but simply complaining about what EVERY mother has had to deal with for all of history albeit without the incredible technology that makes our lives exponentially easier.
Women need more humility and less fragility. We need to stop talking and thinking about ourselves constantly. We need fewer slogans and more scripture.
I’m calling on the older women like myself to step into this space and be willing to hold the younger women to a higher standard. One that places a greater emphasis on sacrifice than selfishness.
Callin Clancy was strangled so hard his neck was swollen, and his brain swelled so much from the force that his brain started to try and come out the base of the skull. An 8 month old boy lay there screaming and crying, not understanding why his mother is killing him, but LINDSEY is the one I’m supposed to feel sorry for? Lindsey is the center of the story?
Callan was a child. He suffered. Doctors fought for him. He died. The fact that so many people can talk endlessly about her pain while barely acknowledging his should disturb everyone.
Be careful what you complain about.
-You gripe about traffic… because you own a car.
-You moan about housework… because you have a home.
-You hate cooking… because there’s food in the fridge.
-You drag yourself to work… because you actually have a job.
-You wake up exhausted… because you get to raise kids.
-You bury yourself in laundry… because your family has clothes on their backs.
-You dread the gym… because you still have a body that can move.
-You stare at a sink full of dishes… because you got to eat today.
Most of the things we complain about are the exact blessings somebody else is praying for.
Stop treating your wins like burdens.
Remote work changed my life more than my salary ever did. The money obviously matters, but the real luxury is no commute, quiet mornings, midday walks, dinner plans after work, and actually having enough energy left to enjoy a life outside of my job.
I have one son. My wife and I want more children, but we’re hesitant because of the time constraints, I work two jobs and she works full-time. So every time I see migrant families in my country with half a dozen kids, it’s a stark reminder of the betrayal I feel from my own government. Especially when my labor is directly subsidizing their ability to have large families while I’m left with nothing. I feel like a lowly slave to them in my own country. This isn’t right. Why do we keep putting up with it?
I had two really hard pregnancies. I will spare everyone the awful details but because of it I had to have a stress test and an ultrasound every other day and we were all just praying I could make it to 34 weeks because after 34 weeks the baby is considered late preterm and has a 99% chance of surviving.
By God’s grace I made it until 35 weeks before I had to have an emergency c-section.
I met a lot of moms in the NICU those first couple of days and some of their babies were struggling but fighting so hard. Luckily the ones I met all took their babies home and they are now perfect and all caught up with their milestones.
Whenever I see people celebrate something as cruel and vicious as late term abortions it brings me back to those days in the NICU where I watched other moms pray and cry and worry all day and I can’t help but to be profoundly sad for our society.
God entrusts mothers to protect their babies, the most innocent of innocents among us and to know that there are women out there who would actually murder babies that are full grown is the same thing as a mom murdering her newborn. It’s that evil. And yet there are women who celebrate this.
What are we doing as a society?
How can any person support or be proud of what Massachusetts did with late term abortion?
The procedure is vile, brutal, tragic, inhumane and horrifying.
I don't care what any of them say, life begins are conception and every life is sacred.
