"Trees have rich lives. We must understand what they need," says ecologist TR Shankar Raman, author, The Trees of My Country; A Natural History of India in 50 Trees, illustrated beautifully by Manali Patil. They spoke to me about impending doom in Nicobar, the hoax of compensatory forestation, the extraordinary variety of our magnificent trees from the jackfruit to the semal, and the influence of Company painting. The message by @gbsumudflotilla activists is clear: imagine the horrors that Palestinians are subjected to, that doesn't get the attention their detention did. @NoaAvishag shared her thoughts on the same with me on the sidelines of the @JaipurLitFest https://t.co/pylHA2Ochb
Massive call out to my brave, beautiful & fearless friend Noa Avishag Schnall @NoaAvishag of the @gbsumudflotilla who yesterday had the courage, while zip-tied, to shout at Ben Gvir to his face that he was a "genocidal maniac," after which she was assaulted & beaten up by his henchmen. Following a global outcry she and her fellow activists have now arrived safely in Istanbul, severely bruised but unbowed. She will be telling her story @JLFLitfest London at 15.00 on Saturday, 6th June.
