I hate when people at work ask you what books you are reading for professional development. I am reading books to counteract the effects of being professionally developed. I am reading books that bring me back to being human.
another case for more talent density in teams and FAR MORE alignment than usual: AI’s ability to let you go super duper fast in the total wrong direction
New media runs on speed.
@pmarca on the OODA loop:
"Speed wins."
"If you can have a sustainably faster OODA loop processing cycle than the next guy... then if you think about what happens — let's say it takes an hour to figure something out."
"It takes the other guy two hours to figure something out. Think about what happens is: you start out on even playing field. You both start your decision making cycles."
"You make your decision within an hour. The other guy is still say, is inside his own OODA loop when you make your decision, right?"
"He's only halfway through his process, he now has to start his process over, right — because you've changed the landscape. You've changed the parameters of what's going on. So he now has to go back and re-serve and reorient and start over."
Observe, orient, decide, action.

all my obsidian notes are now a living, digital garden 🌿🌸
each plant is a notes from a tag: older ones on the trunk, newer ones as leaves. i wanted to create a sense of tending your garden, so scrubbing the timeline lets you watch your notes grow chronologically.
The "Visual Explainer" agent skill just crossed 3.5K stars on GitHub 🎉
Just updated with: /generate-visual-plan slash command for more structured plan specs, code block patterns, typography polish, mermaid fixes, anti slop guardrails

Engagement does not imply learning.
Exhaustion does not imply learning.
Enjoyment does not imply learning.
Struggle does not imply learning.
Comfort does not imply learning.
Discomfort does not imply learning.
“Following along” does not imply learning.
What DOES imply learning???
Learning is a positive change in long-term memory.
When you’re able to consistently reproduce information you consumed and use it to solve problems that you weren't able to solve before…
THAT implies learning.
One paradox of extreme behavior is that it's almost always assumed that it means constant and frenetic action, when maybe the most extreme behavior is having the discipline to do nothing at all.
anyone have a list of weekend work spots/cafe's in ny? Preferably in bk, with outlets, wifi, matcha and not trying to double up as a club after 2pm lol.
Some of the best teams feel more like jazz than engineering. Not everyone plays the same notes. But they’re listening. Responding. It sounds messy at first. But over time, it starts to groove in a way no plan could’ve created.
Speed is not the advantage. Feedback is. Moving fast without learning fast is how you waste time efficiently. Speed without insight just gets you lost faster.
the concept of “idgaf war” is a symptom of profound societal rot
giving a shit (about people, work, places, etc) will bring you profound joy and purpose, yes, sometimes at the expense of pain and stress. to gaf is one of life’s great pleasures
