The Court reaffirmed that while the government has broad authority to set immigration priorities, applicants should not be left in prolonged administrative limbo without reasonable justification. Timely decisions—not indefinite delays—are essential to fairness, public confidence, and the rule of law.

Canada’s immigration system is one of our nation’s greatest strengths. To preserve that strength, we must ensure it is efficient, transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of applicants, employers, and our economy.

This case should encourage continued efforts to modernize IRCC, reduce backlogs, and deliver the timely, predictable processing that Canadians and newcomers deserve.

I have previously commented that I have been surprised that there has not been more political commentary about the increased security screening delays for Chinese nationals, as well as what appears to be a bureaucratic assumption that anyone from China could in the future be a spy.

Hopefully this protest brings attention to this issue.
