Six-City Protest Across Canada | Winnipeg No one is against a security check. What people are against is a security check with no end date. Every day it drags on is a job lost, a family kept apart, a life on hold.

On July 31, 2026, individuals whose immigration applications have been delayed by security screening will protest to raise awareness of the issue. I wish them well, as the prolonged uncertainty caused by these delays creates significant hardship.
🌹🇨🇦🇨🇦🌹 An important report in the @TorontoStar highlights a Federal Court ruling with implications for Canada’s immigration system.
The Court reaffirmed that while the government has broad authority to set immigration priorities, applicants should not be left in prolonged administrative limbo without reasonable justification. Timely decisions—not indefinite delays—are essential to fairness, public confidence, and the rule of law.
Canada’s immigration system is one of our nation’s greatest strengths. To preserve that strength, we must ensure it is efficient, transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of applicants, employers, and our economy.
This case should encourage continued efforts to modernize IRCC, reduce backlogs, and deliver the timely, predictable processing that Canadians and newcomers deserve.

@SenatorVictorOh@TorontoStar Canada wants global talent, but indefinite security screening sends the opposite message. Many skilled software professionals from China face prolonged delays. To remain competitive, security screening must be completed within a reasonable timeframe—not left without an end.
@SenatorVictorOh@TorontoStar I left a well-paid software engineering job in China because my Canadian employer needed my skills. Today I pay over CAD 70K in taxes every year, yet prolonged TRV security screening keeps me apart from my loved ones and makes it difficult to focus on building my future in Canada
Stop sitting on the sidelines! Waiting silently changes nothing. On July 31st, take action for our rights. We demand transparency and an end to these endless background check delays! Stand up, speak out, and make our voices heard. #IRCC#cdnimm#CBCNews@CanBorder@csiscanada
📍Join the nationwide action on July 31 to support transparent processing and meaningful security screening reform.
Together, we can make our voices heard.

I have previously commented that I have been surprised that there has not been more political commentary about the increased security screening delays for Chinese nationals, as well as what appears to be a bureaucratic assumption that anyone from China could in the future be a spy.
Hopefully this protest brings attention to this issue.
