@Avis_Favaro@Avis_Favaro Doctors have been calling for this for years and years.
When they cancelled OR's at the Civic and Riverside last week to accommodate for the fire at the General that was my husband's first response.
Why not work in the evenings for the week? He would have.
@Avis_Favaro I remember being at a conference in medical school where they spoke about the concept of "smoothing" - a hospital that moved to a 7d/wk of scheduled days/evenings improved flow so much that they cancelled a building project. I've been an MD for > 20 years now.

While she was Health Minister, Don Mills Surgical, a private for-profit hospital, got a 278% increase in funding. She didn't run again in the 2022 election, and now Christine Elliott @celliottability has become a lobbyist for Don Mills Surgical.

Longer wait times.
Hidden, out-of-pocket fees.
A worsened staffing crisis.
Two-tier, American-style private health care will be a disaster for Ontario.
But Doug Ford is continuing to attack our health care system.
We must stand up for publicly-funded & delivered care.
Andrew Longhurst, author of the report: "At What Cost? Ontario hospital privatization and the threat to public health care"; Michael Hurley, president, Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, CUPE, and #simcoecountyhc Co-chair Anisa Carrascal spoke at the event.
More private medical clinics means longer wait times through the system, as they siphon off skilled health care workers - Ontario report suggests https://t.co/swZKMUUEcM @KateDeClerq@CTVNewsToronto#healthcare#privatemedicine
In this scale of emergency, one would expect that extraordinary efforts would be made to stabilize and improve health care.
Instead, the gov't is increasing health funding at less than the rate of inflation & funding plans are far less than needed, even to meet announced plans.
As we write, Ontario is in the worst health care crisis in memory.
- Public hospital services are facing repeated & unprecedented closures
- ICUs are desperately understaffed
- 10s of 1000s wait for LTC
- An unprecedented staffing crisis extends across health care
