Hey Simmers! After 9 years of working on The Sims, I've decided that it's time to move on from EA and explore new frontiers as a Software Engineer. I wish you all many exciting years of simming to come!
@aveniceglass@nando_aze That being said, might be pretty easy to just make a custom content stilt foundation that uses an invisible stilt product, if you really really want that behavior.
When you're too excited about stilt foundations in The Sims 4 and just can't deal.
New free patch today, including stilt foundations! It turns out, figuring out where to put stilts is just as hard as rendering them! Here are some screenshots from early alpha iterations π π
@aveniceglass@nando_aze That was my second inclination! But, there are too many usability issues with it (eg. not being able to route or place objects under there) to make it worth adding without fixing those issues. Doesn't seem worth it when you can do the same thing by placing a non-level-0 room.
@Laireen35 When your foundation posts more often than you do π°
The "stilts" around the outside are placed first. Picture imaginary lines perpendicular to those walls, the game tries to create more posts where those lines would intersect, weighed by how many are intersecting, in what way
@JackTheSimmer @luthsthings For performance, it's often just what your computer can handle :P Our minspec target is pretty low, so even larger lots can start to chug when you fill them up. In this case, my development machine didn't really blink at the extra columns, it just made the object system angry
@MarleyTheWizard@GeminiGingerYT@SimGuruNick@SimGuruArvin That functionality is intended; the room in the middle doesn't have a stilt foundation, since new rooms don't automatically inherit products from nearby rooms. You can still put a stilt foundation on that room if you want though!
@JackTheSimmer @luthsthings Well, the game blew past its max number of supported instanced scene models of a single type, threw a few asserts and most likely ended up failing to track those models, so I'd say the game's state at this point is generously described as "unstable"
@FCowplant @Iron_Cgull It's just a stub lot for testing π loads in much faster on debug builds because it doesn't have any neighbors. Downsides include a sparse environment, and that it doesn't have artist-tuned world lighting so doesn't properly represent shipping graphics
@simslover1134 I'm not actually on the worldbuilding team, but I've seen some of their work in progress. If you check out the "creative" section on Twitch and watch some 3D modelers work, the creative process is much the same! Everything starts bland and slowly blooms as they work on it
@aveniceglass@nando_aze I actually discovered that foundation shortly after I started doing the stilts work! I thought to make it a proper "floating" foundation, but we need to avoid changing the look of shipped assets, otherwise we'd change everybody's lots, and some people may have wanted the old look
@nando_aze If you want a floating room, it's probably better to use an upper-level room, and lower it closer to the ground. Non-ground-level rooms support "Floor trims", which are generated with the same system that foundation use, and then you get routability and object placement.
@nando_aze That being said, anything is "possible!" We could add one or another version of anything, it's just prioritization/triage at the end of the day. Some things may be more or less expensive than they seem.
@markiplier Oh hey, I took the same ones last year!
The rule against lying down is to prevent it from coming into contact with your epiglottis, and biggest concern with the medication is that it will kill off all your good gut bacteria, and the bad ones will kill you. Eat lots of yogurt!
