Danke an @OeParl🇦🇹Nationalrätin Mag.
The persecution of religious minorities in Iran, among other egregious human rights abuses, continues to be a matter of profound concern for me and many other Canadians.
I want to draw attention in particular to the cases of Borna and Peyvand Naimi, two young Bahá’ís who are imprisoned in Iran. They have endured torture and face the death penalty. I call for their release.
Inside Iran, the regime is intensifying its brutal repression of the people.
Since mid-March, they have accelerated the execution of political prisoners. 22 people have been hanged, half of them were involved in the huge anti-government protests in January. And hundreds more could face death penalty charges.
Thank you @Channel4News for covering the situation of Payvand and Borna and their appalling situation as well as the scapegoating of the Baha’is in #Iran which had escalated since the January protests.
Thank you @FCDO_FoRB_Envoy for your support for the Baha’is in #Iran, particularly Payvand and Borna Naimi who have faced torture and mock executions for no other reason than their faith. Freedom of religion or belief is not an exceptional demand, it is a basic, minimum standard of human dignity owed to every person.
The UK is closely tracking the dire situation for religious minorities in Iran.
This includes abhorrent reports that Baha’is have been subject to torture and mock execution.
We will continue to pursue accountability.
Cousins Peyvand Naimi and Borna Naimi, from Iran’s persecuted Baha’i religious minority, may be at risk of the death penalty in relation to the January 2026 protests. Their detention is arbitrary and they must be released immediately.

Le Canada reste très préoccupé par la répression persistante et systématique exercée par l’Iran contre les défenseurs des droits de la personne, les minorités religieuses, les étudiants et les familles des manifestants et militants. Ces violations doivent cesser.
I stood in the House in response to the deeply troubling reports of executions and repression in Iran, including the killing of six political dissidents in recent weeks and the persecution of the Baha’i community.
Thank you @Robert_Rehak for your support of Payvand for the unjust treatment he has faced in #Iran, including torture and mock executions, all only for his faith.
As #Passover and #Easter celebrate liberation from slavery and victory over death, many still face execution for their faith. #PeyvandNaimi, a young #Baha’i in #Iran, is being tortured and faces death on false charges. He needs our voice. Let us strive for his #Freedom. #IRFBA
Ich verurteile Folter und Scheinhinrichtungen gegen Peyvand Naimi. Die Zerstörung der Bahá’í-Gemeinde im Iran muss enden. Freiheit für alle politischen Gefangenen, jetzt! @BahaiBIC_Rights
Chair Hartzler: "Peyvand Naimi, an Iranian and member of the Iranian Baha’i faith, faces execution after being tortured and forced into false confessions via shame judicial proceedings. This is yet another brutal example of Iran’s crackdown on religious minorities."
🆘 Following my call to action to prevent executions in #Iran, I have been made aware of the case of Peyvand Naomi, a young Baha’i who is at imminent risk after two mock hangings. This comes after the recent execution of a Swedish citizen. This inhumane practice must end.
Thank you for your support @KMooreGilbert for Payvand Naimi’s case - an innocent young man in Iran being tortured and facing mock executions for crimes he didn’t commit.
Peyvand Naimi is a young Baha’i prisoner in Kerman who has been tortured, including being subjected to two mock hangings, and was forced to film a false confession broadcast on state TV in February. Peyvand was accused of involvement in the deaths of 3 Basijis during the January protests, despite the fact that he was already in detention at the time. He has also been falsely accused of celebrating the death of Khamenei, an event he could not have known about given his lack of access to information in custody.
His family fears these fabricated charges may be used to justify his execution for crimes he did not commit.

#PeyvandNaimi held in solitary confinement. Tortured, coerced into confession, denied due process & in threat of imminent execution.
His case emblematic of thousands of abuses currently unfolding inside Iranian prisons, in the shadows of escalation.
