just imo but i think a crucial sticking point in public discourse over there last year is many many people’s inability or unwillingness to get into their heads just how many palestinians are imprisoned by israel who have literally not done anything wrong
People are pointing out that public infrastructure shouldn’t be expected to make a profit. But the point of this post is that we frequently expect transit and even walk/bike projects to justify themselves by farebox recovery or economic activity and never expect this of highways.
Americans need to see this so they can understand that Israel isn’t “fighting for its life,” Gaza’s destruction isn’t an “unavoidable consequence of urban warfare,” but that Israel is systematically wiping a city of two million people off the face of the earth block by block.
