In a city as congested as Dublin, cycling is like having a superpower.
Almost everywhere inside the M50 is within a gentle 30-minute cycle of O'Connell Bridge - no matter how bad the traffic gets. If you want a consistent commute time, cycle.
Two months ago the Government promised to stop cuckoo funds snapping up homes, tonight they are incentivising them to do just that. They cannot be believed or trusted on housing because they’ve shamefully put the interests of investors ahead of people trying to buy a home.
Hugely significant story on the front page of this weekend’s @businessposthq from @killianwoods showing how how dysfunctional our housing sector has become.
State money intended to boost housing supply ends up being used to buy newly built homes ahead of first time buyers
We may be frustrated that multibillion-dollar investors are now competing with one-off buyers for houses, but the state encouraged these funds to come into Ireland and planned to profit from the trend, writes @killianwoods. https://t.co/HeedRoKzon
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was helping car & oil companies lobby governments to create car dependent cities & suburbs, & when we became dependent, WE became the biggest, angriest champions of unhindered road space for cars, cheap gas, & unlimited free parking.
6th 12 hour shift & just walked home cos someone lifted my bike from outside hospital 😡
Long shot, but if anyone around St James’/#Dublin8 area comes across a bike exactly like this for sale/discarded, please DM. Small reward & eternal gratitude offered @stolenbikesdub
Imagine Paris, but even better. Imagine a global model of “hyper-local” city building, championing the “15 Minute City” with cycle-lanes on every street by 2024, 60,000 on-street parking spaces transformed, etc. Via @WEF kudos @Anne_Hidalgo@CarlosMorenoFr
Ireland has the 4th lowest 14 day Covid-19 rate in the EU (129 per 100K), but we're not hosting Euro 2020. Yet Hungary (861), Netherlands (568), Italy (399), Germany (276), Romania (376) & Spain (210) all have far higher rates than us and they're hosting. Why is this happening?
The @RSAIreland & @GardaTraffic would blame the woman for not wearing a HiViz, in daylight. Years of "be safe, be seen" campaigns have enabled drivers to behave like this. Exact same thing happened to my gf b4 xmas, unfortunately the (7 seater) driver smashed straight into her..
WOW — France is offering car owners the chance to trade aging vehicles for €2500 euro ($2975) toward the purchase of an electric bike.
“For the first time, it’s recognized that the solution is not to make cars greener, but simply to reduce their number.” https://t.co/ZGFA2MkSSy
Some perspective on the risk from the AZ vaccine. A 25 year old has 11 in a million chance of being harmed. They are 3 times more likely to die in a road accident (which is very rare). Should people in their 20s now not go in cars?
Kids need more than hi-vis vests to get to school safely.
They need proper infrastructure to make walking, cycling and scooting a practical choice for families.
We invite schools to apply for the Safe Route to School programme with a 2021 fund of €15m

just so we are clear
we are closing Weds due a consistent failure by multiple governments to not invest in health care.
there is no other reason
Our health care system cannot cope
Government currently debating whether gyms are essential service. We know that gyms improve people's physical and mental health hugely. But they're debating it. Interestingly off licences (liquor stores) never closed. Were immediately declared essential with zero argument 🤷🏻♂️
