Thanks a lot Prerna for sharing. Just want to say, it’s not just a commentary but also provides suggestions to the bill. A lot of amendments proposed in the Bill are suggested to be “removed” in the HLWG report (at the end of each chapters + a summary in chapter 6). Govt will bring a bill if they want, but JPC proceedings influence the law-making & help the govt & the parliament take an informed decision. Like you, I too believe this Bill in its present form is liable to be scrapped. Our suggestions to amend any clause is only for those amendments which bring clarity or remove ambiguity and doesn’t suggest for amending any clause which dilute it. There has been extensive research, consultations & deliberations behind each of the suggestions to remove or amend any clause to the Bill. Sharing a screenshot of the suggestions from the report.

"WHAT's happening around me?!" Probably what this little Langur is thinking right now. He came clinging on to his mother, who was unfortunately electrocuted near Pune. Currently the RESQ CT team is trying their best to keep her alive. The baby is in distress too, but calmer in its mother's presence. 

While urbanisation or development is the need of the hour for humans, so is helping the animals affected by it. The @resqct team spends days and nights providing aid to these animals, all of which come to us when they get into some form of distress because of the rapidly developing areas around us.

Frustrating as it is to watch hundreds of animals lose their lives to electrocution each year, I ask myself, is it completely preventable? Maybe not. But can we save as many as possible that do get affected by it? Definitely YES.

The High-Level Working Group constituted by @Vidhi_India met today in New Delhi to finalize the report on Forest Conservation Bill 2023 to be submitted to the Joint Committee of the Parliament. The HLWG had 18 members consisting of retired public service officers, senior conservationists, forest/wildlife scientists, eco-restoration experts, representatives from CSOs & lawyers from various parts of the country. The HLWG has been working on the report since last 3 weeks & had held several online meetings & consultations with various stakeholders during deliberations. The report of the HLWG (approx 40 pages) is a very detailed analysis of each of the clauses of the Bill alongwith suggested changes to the Bill. Will be sharing the report soon.
