I used to treat PCB fabs like magic black boxes:
Sent messy Gerbers, "quick updates", BOM.xlsx, BOM_final.xlsx, followed, of course, by BOM_final2.xlsx , unwritten "zoom clarifications" that I expected to keep track of.

In my head: "They'll figure it out."

Reality: Procurement grabs one BOM, CAM another Gerber set, floor has outdated PDF. Mismatches everywhere.

If you don't have the discipline of documenting your project, don't expect your fab to do it for you.
