Rural journalist situated in Sundre, a community nestled snugly in Alberta's foothills on the doorstep to the West Country. Views expressed are my own.
It would be most welcome to hear more politicians demand that billionaires make a sacrifice for a once, instead of their usual approach of asking the rest of us to squeeze our belts tighter than ever so we can afford even more tax breaks for our oligarchs.

@Brcremer The fact the Nazi regime drew not only inspiration but also legal precedents from examples set by segregationist U.S. laws, was not something I learned in my high school social studies curriculum.

@gilmcgowan This reckless race for huge AI data centres also feels like quite the about face for a government that not long ago waxed poetic about the importance of protecting the environment as an excuse to sabotage the renewable energy sector, costing Alberta billions in lost investments.
A Calgary noise bylaw got Danielle Smith's attention faster than the voter list data leak exposing the private information of three million Albertans.
Just sit with that for a minute.
@gilmcgowan This excerpt from a 2018 interview certainly aged like fine wine.
"There would be a real (U.S.) desire to have oil from Alberta. And, in fact, right now the one major competitor is Venezuela, and we know what's happening to that country."

@gilmcgowan The Great Grift goes on. At this point, all that's remotely surprising—and honestly rather deflating—is how many are apparently still enthusiastically applauding.
@maddenifico The thing that folks who complain about the cost of monitoring and prevention programs intended to protect the public from pests or disease somehow manage not to see, is the far greater financial impact of failing to act proactively.
@gilmcgowan Imagine being in a party with a leader like Poilievre and actually having the gall to unironically lecture others about a lack of humility.
Also, record oil sector production levels and profits don't exactly corroborate made-up claims the industry's been decimated...
@herewego8745@FiacconiRichard@CarrieTait@ToddKaighin You and me both (this clone account at any rate). On a somewhat related tangent, ain't it fascinating how quickly Musk stopped caring about bots after promising to purge them from Twitter before going on to fire almost everyone? Almost like bots are part of X's business model...
@herewego8745@CarrieTait@ToddKaighin Also note the 300,000-plus posts since that account was created in 2022. So in other words, 200-plus posts every single day, on average. Not convinced anyone who spends *that* much time on Twitter should be taken particularly seriously. Probably a bot anyway.
@Coralie4955@CarrieTait@hichenwang Wow! 300,000-plus posts over the span of four years, breaking down to a daily average of a whopping 200-plus posts. Yeah, definitely seems *totally* legit!🙄
@SaveStandard@ctvedmonton Either by design or ineptitude, Standard Time was never even presented as a choice in the 2021 referendum, which was apparently an exercise in "democracy".
@ctvedmonton Will anyone remind the premier we already had a referendum on this issue in 2021? The only options were either DST or status quo; none for Standard. Albertans spoke against DST.
Maybe this could be the umpteenth question on the upcoming referendum? What's one more at this point!
