MLX is awesome tech. Try running ML in production on other non-NVIDIA hardware and you'll see that most ML software sucks or doesn't work at all. CUDA on NVIDIA is the best. But MLX has real users and a dev team that knows how to build high quality software (h/t @awnihannun @angeloskath)

Why would anyone take a risk on new hardware if the software is riddled with bugs? Literally -ev even if they give the hardware for free.

it’s absolutely astonishing that most people do not realize that software engineering, as we knew it, is already dead.

- we taught people to be artisanal code-crafters, but the world now needs systems thinkers & automation orchestrators. cs degrees feel as outdated as medieval guild apprenticeships.

- the ways we judged engineers—take-home tests, whiteboards, interviews—are broken. when ai can pass these tests, the real question isn’t “can you code?” but “can you ask the right questions & assemble the right answers?”

- software production is commoditized: software creation has become a factory line. the only valuable engineering now lives in edge cases or the integration of systems. bespoke craftsmanship is niche; the rest is automation.

- software itself is changing: it used to mean pixels & functions, occasionally spiced with ml for “personalization.” but that paradigm no longer matters. software is now the infrastructure for experience orchestration—adaptive systems built for an ever-shifting meta-environment.

- even personal, human systems are shifting: our software doesn’t just mediate culture; it’s reshaping communication, relationships, & emotional endurance. it’s not tools anymore—it’s prosthetics for the psyche.

Red flags for narcissists/psychopaths:

1. Lengthy staring - Dark personalities do not experience discomfort in the same way others do so they use staring as an influencing tactic. This could be eye staring or following you around a room.

2. Watching your hands as you speak - narcissists/psychopaths do not experience emotions because of brain anomalies. They look at your hand movements to try and understand what your emotional vulnerabilities are.

3. Smirking - dark personalities smirk out of an arrogant sense of ‘I have fooled them all and I am amazing’. They also smirk when they hurt someone. The smirk can sometimes be just a tiny movement on one side of the mouth and the eyes are dull.

4. Charity - when a media story about a charity contains as much information about a person as the charity that is a big red flag.

5. Peering - when a situation is emotional the narcissist/psychopath may squint and lean forward almost as if studying the situation to try and understand it.

6. Housework. Oddly, there seems to be a trend that housework is not something they are willing to do. Using intimidating behaviour around housework is a red flag.

7. Expectations - expecting too much or having limited concern for health and safety issues is a dark personality red flag.

Brian’s post merely mentions history, yet many Trump supporters immediately assumed it was about Trump. Brian didn't mention Trump one single time.

This reaction is fascinating—it’s a psychological phenomenon where people see patterns they subconsciously recognize and react defensively.

Some might call it "being triggered".

For my British and European friends who are "shocked" and "surprised", here are 10 reasons you didn't see this coming.

Read this short post and then read the replies from our American friends who will confirm what I'm saying.

1. Americans love their country and want it to be the best in the world. America is a nation of people who conquered a continent. They love strength. They love winning. Any leader who appeals to that has an automatic advantage.

2. Unlike Europeans, Americans have not accepted managed decline. They don't have Net Zero here, they believe in producing their own energy and making it as cheap as possible because they know that their prosperity depends on it.

3. Prices for most basic goods in the US have increased rapidly and are sky high. What the official statistics say about inflation and the reality of people's lives are not the same.

4. Unlike you, Americans do not believe in socialism. They believe in meritocracy. They don't care about the super rich being super rich because they know that they live in a country where being super rich is available to anyone with the talent and drive to make it. They don't resent success, they celebrate it.

5. Americans are the most pro-immigration people in the world. Read that again. Seriously, read it again. Americans love an immigrant success story. They want more talented immigrants to come to America. But they refuse to accept people coming illegally. They believe in having a border.

6. Americans are sensitive about racial issues and their country's imperfect history. They believe that those who are disadvantaged by the circumstances of their birth should be given the opportunity to succeed. What they reject, however, is the idea that in order to address the errors of the past new errors must be made. DEI is racist. They know it and they reject it precisely because they are not racist.

7. Americans are the most philosemitic nation on earth. October 7 and the pro-Hamas left's reaction shocked them to their very core because, among other things, they remember what 9/11 was like and they know jihad when they see it.

8. Americans are extremely practical people. They care about what works, not what sounds good. In Europe, we produce great writers and intellectuals. In America they produce (and attract) great engineers, businessmen and investors. Because of this, they care less about Trump's rhetoric than you do and more about his policies than you do.

9. Americans are deeply optimistic people. They hate negativity. The woke view of American history as a series of evils for which they must eternally apologise is utterly abhorrent to them. They believe in moving forward together, not endlessly obsessing about the past.

10. America is a country whose founding story is one of resistance to government overreach. They loathe unnecessary restrictions, regulations and control. They understand that freedom comes with the price of self-reliance and they pay it gladly.

The best explanation I've ever listened to as to why the "Thucydides trap" doesn't apply when it comes to China, and why China doesn't have Western-like hegemonic aspirations.

By George Yeo, former foreign minister of Singapore and imho the single best analyst of China anywhere in the world (I always religiously listen to his talks).

His main argument is that it's foolish to apply a Western prism that it the legacy of the Greek Peloponnesian war to predict Chinese behavior: you need to look at China's own history and culture. And China has always shown that it wishes to remain a homogeneous society which means its very DNA prevents it from acting like the West by reshaping the world in its image, since that would necessarily imply that China transforms its own culture to be universally applicable.

I 100% agree with this. The world that China wants is a world where it and other countries are NOT forced to reshape themselves in the West's image, not a world where China wants to reshape others. That's anathema to Chinese culture: at no point in China's history were there Chinese missionaries roaming the world trying to convert others to Daoism or Chinese Buddhism, they just don't do this stuff because they understand that if you want to reshape others you first need to reshape yourself and thereby lose your homogeneity and uniqueness. On the contrary, throughout their history, all of China's efforts have always been on preserving itself from outside influence and interference, which is the very reason why it is the longest-lasting civilization in history.
