2026 World Cup — A data look at the 48 teams.
Using the official FIFA Ranking , I built 3 tables:
1️⃣ Rank difference — for each team, how many positions ahead/behind
their 3 group opponents are
2️⃣ Points difference — same, but using FIFA Ranking points
3️⃣ Group balance — for each group, the average delta between all 6 pairs
of teams, plus medians and standard deviation
Some takeaways:
🟢 Group D (USA, Türkiye, Australia, Paraguay) is the MOST balanced —
teams ranked #16 to #40, avg pairwise gap just 88 points
🔴 Group H (Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde) is the MOST unbalanced — range of 510 points, Spain (#2) faces a CV side (#69) on MD1
📊 Spain has the "easiest" path on paper (+141 total rank advantage),
followed by Brazil (+116), Germany (+109), Belgium (+108), England (+106)
⚠️ New Zealand has the toughest group (−196), drawn with Belgium, Egypt, Iran

Usando il Ranking FIFA ufficiale, ho costruito 3 tabelle:
1️⃣ Differenza posizioni — per ogni squadra, di quante posizioni è 
 avanti/dietro rispetto ai suoi 3 avversari di girone
2️⃣ Differenza punti — stesso concetto, ma usando i punti del ranking FIFA 
3️⃣ Equilibrio dei gironi — per ogni girone, il delta medio tra tutte 
 le 6 coppie di squadre, più mediane e deviazione standard

Alcune osservazioni:
🟢 Il Girone D (USA, Turchia, Australia, Paraguay) è il PIÙ equilibrato —

Details always make the difference, even when it comes to positioning on penalty kicks. Roma qualified for the Champions League thanks to a goal that stemmed from Dybala's positioning on the penalty taken by Malen. Further examples come from Como and Inter.

The CIES - International Centre for Sports Studies study reveals an uncomfortable truth: Italy is the worst league among Europe's top 5 in terms of average head coach tenure.
🇮🇹 Serie A: 10.9 months average tenure — 75% of head coaches in their role for less than a year.
🇮🇹 Serie B: 7.6 months — 90% of head coaches replaced in the past 12 months.

In contrast, the most stable leagues are home to the best clubs in the world:
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Premier League — 27.8 months
🇪🇸 La Liga — 29.1 months
🇩🇪 Bundesliga — 23.3 months

The only positive note is that young coaches are finally being given their chance: 15% are under 40.

Too many interruptions — caused by injuries and VAR interventions — risk undermining the beauty of the game. Even when stoppage time is appropriately extended, repeated breaks disrupt the momentum of the match and interrupt the teams’ rhythm.
The introduction of effective playing time could represent a step forward, but on its own it does not fully solve the issue: frequent stoppages continue to break the flow and momentum of the game.
A possible solution could be the one already tested by #FIFA during the #ArabCup2025: any player requiring medical treatment must leave the pitch and remain off the field for at least 2–3 minutes, thereby discouraging simulation and unnecessary time-wasting.

Spalletti, nelle sue dichiarazioni riportate da Cronache di spogliatoio, ha sottolineato il numero eccessivo di “finti” infortuni durante la partita contro il Cagliari.

Then came a shift to man-oriented defending (leaving the goalkeeper unpressed), accepting numerical equality in the defensive phase. In modern football, with the evolution of the goalkeeper’s role, we now see situations where even the goalkeeper is pressed, conceding numerical inferiority in the defensive line.

🇮🇹 Una volta si difendeva in superiorità numerica a tutti i costi. Poi si e' passato a giocare uomo su uomo (senza pressare il portiere) lasciando la parità numerica in fase difensiva. Nel calcio moderno, con l'evoluzione del ruolo del portiere, si vedono situazioni dove si pressa anche il portiere concedendo l'inferiorità numerica nel reparto difensivo.
