More comfortable holding my #communication classes online this fall & can teach effectively that way. Any other folks uncomfortable being told class should meet in person? A student writes a letter to administrators on concerns about reopening campuses: https://t.co/jJljm8vFcQ
@DrunkPrincipal Could poster be in the UK? They use the terms “thesis” and “dissertation” in reverse to the US typically - so master’s culminates in a dissertation (and the UG “senior thesis” uses the dissertation title), whilst the culmination of doctoral work is a thesis.
@NYGovCuomo asking @senatemajldr to send NY it’s money back re: the “blue state bailout” argument is giving me major @Pres_Bartlet debate vibes (cc: @KellyPDillon)
Not to minimize their post, which is 100% right, but a supplementary fun fact:
Evidence of PhD’s being called “doctor” predates evidence of attribution towards MD’s.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but anyone who earns a PhD and uses "Dr." in front of their name has every right to do so. Some academics do and some don't, but either way, they earned it. That's really all that needs to be said, but one more thing to consider... (1/2)
@richardhuskey With other TA’s at a UCAT training, we did “the thing I can’t wait to do/purchase when I finish grad school and have a paycheck” which worked well. Could retool it to “the thing I can’t wait to do/purchase when the pandemic is over”?
@Dear_student Which is not to say this student is/isn’t being reasonable making that request, and this may not be compatible with your plans (esp if you’re reworking past assignment prompts as you state). Just a best practice I found simple and effective, which I wanted to share. 4/4
@Dear_student Also has the advantage (for other students, not this one) of a complete course from the outset which is heuristically to your advantage (which I feel is part of the battle with large-seat OL courses). 3/
