WHEN YOUR BANK AND THE TAX OFFICE START “SHARING” — YOUR PRIVACY SHOULD START WORRYING.

AI can produce fake payslips, fake bank statements and increasingly convincing financial documents.

Banks understandably want better ways to detect fraud.

Their proposed answer?

Let banks verify customers' financial information against ATO data.

Sounds convenient.

But Libertarians see the other side of the equation:

⚠️ AI + BIG DATA + GOVERNMENT POWER = AN EXTRAORDINARY CAPACITY FOR SURVEILLANCE.

The ATO already operates extensive data-matching programs. One current program obtains identification and bank transaction information through the Australian Financial Crimes Exchange and matches it against ATO records and other holdings.

Now imagine where technology takes us next.

Your bank knows what you earn and spend.

The ATO knows what you declare.

Government agencies hold information about your identity, property and dealings with government.

AI can potentially connect, analyse and flag enormous datasets almost instantaneously.

The danger isn't AI itself.

The danger is concentrating information and coercive power in the same hands.

Libertarians don't suggest tolerating fraud.

Quite the opposite.

✓ Prosecute fraud.

✓ Allow secure verification where genuinely necessary.

✓ Require the individual's knowledge and consent wherever practicable.

✓ Share the minimum data necessary — not entire financial histories.

✓ Strictly limit information to the purpose for which it was provided.

✓ Require transparency when AI materially affects decisions about individuals.

✓ Give Australians meaningful rights to challenge automated decisions and correct inaccurate information.

✓ Punish government agencies and corporations that misuse personal information.

And above all:

NO UNIVERSAL FINANCIAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM BUILT IN THE NAME OF CONVENIENCE.

Technology should increase the freedom and prosperity of Australians — not quietly construct a digital dossier on every citizen.

Fraudsters should fear AI.

Law-abiding Australians shouldn't have to.

Freedom requires privacy.

And privacy means government doesn't get to know everything simply because technology makes it possible.

The Libertarian Party of Victoria commends the Government on the recent announcement of the closure of Vichealth.

Vichealth is correct that their results on tobacco control “speak for themselves”. Tobacco control policy has been an absolute disaster in Victoria, resulting in an explosion of organised crime, arson and murder.

I urge the Treasurer and Health Minister to ensure that those responsible for this disaster are not rolled into the Health Department, but are instead held accountable and sacked immediately.

The eSafety Commissioner aka Australia’s "Ministry of Truth", has lost a THIRD legal case.

@FSUofAustralia accused the Commissioner of cyber bullying after she called them a "front group" for Elon Musk (clip below). When FSU complained, the eSafety Office dismissed it as "informal," meaning they couldn’t appeal.

This case highlights once again that the eSafety Office is not transparent & working outside the law.
