I have just got home from Makerfield - here are my findings:

1) It is incredibly tight between Labour and Reform. Both are in the 40s with Labour only a couple % ahead.

2) Restore support is less than 5% despite @RupertLowe10 claiming they are in the 20s.

3) Restore supporters are easily converted back to Reform when spoken to. Many have taken their restore signs down and are now backing Reform.

4) Residents have told me Restore have even gone around lying that it is between them and Labour which is why they were initially backing Restore.

5) There are hundreds and hundreds of Reform signs outnumbering Labour at least 3 to 1. I only saw around 8 restore signs today.

I have been across most areas today to get a broad unbiased picture.

No doubt restore supporters won't believe me - that's your choice. But when the result comes in you will realise that the only one lying was Lowe.

Remember - I gain nothing from lying

📢 Update on the Cleethorpes Marketplace Scheme

@peter_levy will you have me on to share the update?

After a full review, we’ve taken a common-sense approach to a project inherited from the previous administration.

The contracts had already been signed, and cancelling the scheme would have come at a significant cost to taxpayers - although, for the record, it was not the £5 million figure previously claimed.

The good news is that, subject to the necessary approvals and amendments to the TRO, we intend to move to a semi-pedestrianised scheme. That means a more flexible approach that works for businesses, residents and visitors, rather than unnecessary restrictions all year round. The timetable will be shared with businesses in advance.

Our proposal will save 12 short-stay free parking spaces in the Marketplace that would otherwise have been lost, ensuring they remain available whenever the road is open to traffic. In addition, we intend to introduce a two-year trial of FREE one-hour parking at both the car park next to Boots and the Old Vic car park, which we intend to introduce within the next few months, subject to the necessary governance arrangements.

This review has been well worth it. We’ve listened, applied common sense, and improved a scheme we inherited. My Cabinet colleagues and I will continue to monitor progress closely to ensure it is delivered successfully and on time.

For what it’s worth Restore had a single house with a garden sign (opposite Barton’s). The same house I mentioned last week.
