To mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Band of the Coldstream Guards performed the US National Anthem at Buckingham Palace today, mirroring the historic gesture made by the UK in 2001. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

With 11,000 US personnel stationed here in the UK and 900 of our own deployed stateside, our bilateral alliance remains the foundation of Euro-Atlantic security.

We remember all those killed 25 years ago today.

Kimi K3 may be an important inflection point for AI. Potentially negative for Anthropic and OpenAI while being net positive for essentially every other company in the world. I mean that very literally. Although the real “Sputnik moment” would be an open-source frontier model that was also token efficient unlike Kimi K3 which is 50-70% more expensive to run than GPT 5.6 per Artificial Analysis.

Rationale:

A world where there are only 2-3 dominant frontier labs with 90% inference margins is net negative for every other layer while being awesome for those 2-3 labs. Those labs would become monopsonies for power, data centers, semiconductors and hyperscalers and would obviously vertically integrate over time into all those layers while also completely subsuming the application/software layers.

Anything that lowers margins and increases competition at the model layer is good for every other AI layer: power, semiconductors, hyperscalers, neoclouds and yes even software.

This is why Jensen is so supportive of open-source. An open-source model requires the *exact* same amount of compute to run as a closed frontier model of similar size and architecture. Kimi K3 is roughly the same price as GPT 5.6 Terra on a per token basis, which actually suggests that it is less computationally efficient as I am sure that GPT 5.6 is priced to a higher margin than K3. And given that K3 is a token wastrel, i.e. token inefficient, it is significantly more expensive per task than GPT 5.6 and Grok 4.5, which are much more token efficient. Cost per token and token efficiency (i.e. intelligence density per token) are the drivers of intelligence per unit of cost. The winning AI companies will be those that offer the most intelligence per $ over time.

Lower margin % at the model layer = more margin $ at every part of the infrastructure layer and is a godsend for software. This can happen either through open-source models like K3 at the frontier *or* having a vertically integrated model company like Meta, SpaceX or Google at the frontier. Both outcomes result in a lower margin % at the model layer as vertically integrated model companies don’t really care where the margin $ come from. This is why it was so painful for OpenAI and Anthropic when Google was right there with them from a model competitiveness perspective and why Grok 4.5 and Muse 1.1 were just as important as Kimi K3.

The reason Kimi K3 is only *potentially* negative for Anthropic and OpenAI is 1) the @ericvishria point that the Claude and ChatGPT products and harnesses may be more important than their models today and 2) the hypothesis that they have much more advanced model checkpoints internally that are already being used for RSI. In the latter scenario, reaching RSI even a few months ahead of other labs might be enough to cement a permanent lead.

Time will tell on both points. And likely fairly quickly.

Caveat would be that since Kimi K3 is not token efficient and thereby actually more expensive than ChatGPT 5.6, we may need to see a more token efficient open-source model at the frontier or see Grok 5/Composer 4/Muse 2 at multiple points on the Pareto frontier for this potential risk to Anthropic and OpenAI to play out. And I am sure they will both vertically integrate as quickly as possible while continuing the product/harness strength they have shown over the last 8 months.

Hello friends and supporters of Ukraine. Today marks four years of the full-scale invasion. Four years ago, the worldview changed for me; it divided the world into those who support Ukraine and those who don’t care. (If you care please read till the end and repost)

While I’m not blaming or shaming those who don’t care, I lost any interest in those people, not because they are bad, but because they are irrelevant to our truly greater cause of saving Ukraine: a proud nation with a plethora of problems but a clear desire to build its own free future and break the shackles of totalitarianism. The path is incredibly thorny and dangerous. From Russian bombs to new American administration pressure to give up our future, to the internal struggle and balance between authoritarian rule and democracy during the war, four years after the invasion it has become the largest war since WWII. Ukraine is still standing against the largest and most resource-rich country in the world. No external pressure, threats, or missiles have broken the Ukrainian will to survive.

But Ukrainians aren't endless, and behind the visible heroism of the nation stands real, everyday work. Infantry, drone operators, air defenses, logistics, intelligence, and engineering, they all do everyday routine work to make sure Ukraine stands and remains a beacon of hope and democracy in this plutocratic and corrupt world of self-serving politicians and twisted lies that seek nothing but to undermine our future to score a few political points at home or put an extra penny in their pocket at the expense of the dignity and future of the Ukrainian nation.

Over these four years, we did a huge amount of work to help Ukrainian defenders survive, win battles, pioneer new ideas, liberate cities, towns, and villages, or simply increase their chances of survival.

With your help, we supplied drones, pickups, heavy trucks, earthmoving machinery, cranes, electric power supplies, batteries, and generators. Your help saved hundreds of lives and helped shape the battlefield to where it is now.

Today, we are still in Kharkiv. Our workshop is working to supply, repair, and manufacture equipment and machinery for Ukrainian defenders. Under the bombs and missiles, with our own electric power and heating, our team stays in Kharkiv and continues its mission.

But it’s impossible without your support. Today, I am trying to fundraise to keep our shop working. We are trying to raise funds for two excavators and two trucks to haul them around for Ukrainian defenders.

Your aid is critical for Ukraine, and I would appreciate it if you could donate to our cause. Anything from a dollar to a thousand is a huge help.

Research shows that regularly practicing gratitude can lead to measurable changes in the brain. This effect is driven by neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself based on repeated thoughts and behaviors. When people intentionally focus on appreciation, neural pathways involved in emotional control and coping become stronger.

Grateful thinking also stimulates the release of dopamine and serotonin, chemicals linked to pleasure and motivation, while helping reduce cortisol, the hormone associated with stress. Brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex and hypothalamus become more active, supporting improved mood regulation and overall mental health.

Over time, gratitude does more than provide short-term emotional relief. It gradually shifts the brain away from its natural bias toward threat detection and toward noticing positive experiences instead. Simple habits like writing down what you’re thankful for or expressing appreciation aloud reinforce these patterns, making optimistic thinking more automatic.

Studies indicate that this repeated practice builds lasting neural connections, promoting emotional balance, resilience, and well-being. In essence, regularly acknowledging what’s going well can retrain the brain showing that small daily moments of gratitude can produce meaningful, long-term psychological benefits.

Last day at xAI.

xAI's mission is push humanity up the Kardashev tech tree. Grateful to have helped cofound at the start. And enormous thanks to @elonmusk for bringing us together on this incredible journey. So proud of what the xAI team has done and will continue to stay close as a friend of the team. Thank you all for the grind together. The people and camaraderie are the real treasures at this place.

We are heading to an age of 100x productivity with the right tools. Recursive self improvement loops likely go live in the next 12mo. It’s time to recalibrate my gradient on the big picture. 2026 is gonna be insane and likely the busiest (and most consequential) year for the future of our species.

Dwarkesh was most interested in how Elon is going to make space datacenters work. I was most interested in Elon's method for attacking hard technical problems, and why it hasn’t been replicated as much as you might expect. But we got into plenty of topics in this three-hour session.
