安倍氏は首相在任中、プーチン大統領と温かく友好的な関係を築いた。両氏は通算27回の会談を実施、親しい間柄で用いる二人称で呼び合った。

ロシアのラブロフ外相は、安倍氏が首相を退いた後の2020年、プーチン氏と安倍氏の関係は「真に友好的であり、互いに敬意を払い、個人的な好意に基づいたものだった」と述べた。
