generative AI assisting artists is great because it saves you a few hours of manual work by forcing you to spend said hours saved fixing whatever the hell it just made up
@ashimilation@TimSweeneyEpic Genuinely insane how they are defending use of Ai here
"we make everything from scratch and then waste time fixing what the Ai hallucinated"
" artists still start with original ideas, ai fixes things up, then artists go in and fix what the ai messed up "
i dont know man mabye just. skip the ai step ??????
"The creative control stays in the hands of the creator" "Its only being used to speed up the process"
Proceed to show how the artists need to go back & spend more time fixing the artifacts instead of doing it the right way the first time.
Here's a look at how Epic's artists approach concept work. From blank canvas to final concepts, they sketch, block out, and refine using traditional tools and evolving ones like Nano Banana, with the artist’s vision driving the ever-evolving process from start to finish.

I'm sorry but have we not learned from the larian situation
The moment you involve Ai in the concept it's not yours anymore, the Ai doesn't know what you want but you do, so why ask the Ai when you could just do it yourself for a more authentic product?
EPIC TALKS ABOUT FORTNITE's CONCEPT ART PROCESS (Skins, POIs, etc..)
• Artists still start with original ideas & sketches in Photoshop, Blender, hand-drawing, etc..
• AI tools are used to iterate and test ideas faster
• Examples shown include: different POI lighting, style swaps, meteor showers, colors, render passes, etc.
• Artists fix mistakes, remove unwanted details, and keep creative control
fortnite always pulling stuff like this when everyone is happy with the game to really remind you shit isn’t completely sweet and it’s still owned by Epic Games
this image was released in 2019 after Microsoft acquired a bunch of studios in 2018 and Double Fine in 2019.
3 of the names are potentially facing shut downs, 1 is completely dead and never released a game, 1 (Turn 10) was totally gutted.
really bleak, man.
