After the Revolution, Thomas Paine was cast aside in the early U.S.
My thesis uses political cartoons from the era to track the origins of his vilification, comparing his biography to his caricature.

Steyer improved from a 20% to 38% chance in tonight’s VoteHub WinCast update, driven by ballots in key counties shifting toward him and confirmation of high outstanding turnout in urban areas.
Hilton still has a slight edge, now tracking to defeat Steyer by 0.6%.
If drops continue shifting a bit more Democratic like this one, Steyer is on track to hit what he needs to get into the top two statewide. Buckle up for a long week(s) ahead.
The silence from Democrats when Muslim colleagues and candidates are attacked is a cancerous rot.
We cannot lead our country out this moment if we're willing to accept the abuse or dehumanization of any marginalized group.
Absolutely pathetic.
@RashidaTlaib is showing us what an opposition party actually looks like.
Democratic leadership is showing us why Democratic voters see them as weak failures enabling Trump's agenda.
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast Seems we agree other than on whether immig. is a priority issue. The inflated importance of immigration is a result of nationalist fear-mongering to deflect from the failures of capitalism. We can hold our ground on humane immigration policy while addressing material needs.
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast Run on and actually enact material gains for workers and reject corporate and genocidal PACs. There is a swath of the base who rightfully doesn’t trust the party, let’s start there. Tester and Brown are victims of Biden and Dem’s fecklessness, not of ‘left extremism.’
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast You’ll hate this but I’m not a fan of a ‘science’ to politics. How can one see the ever extremity of the right and say that moderation is a winning factor? The perception of Dems is that they are compromised elites, Trump and Repubs win because they run as wrecking balls.
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast In addition, those transformative changes I wish for could’ve been fulfilled if we had the willpower to remove the filibuster, reform the Supreme Court, and pursued structural changes to our electoral system.
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast You’re citing examples and not proving an effect. Immigr. is not why Brown lost in ‘24, the GOP ran nonstop ads on him “wanting men in girls sports.” Even then, the solution is not to moderate on trans rights. This is a reductive view of the Democratic party’s failures.
@alexbronzini@mehdirhasan@MollyJongFast It’s sad that your sole concern is popularity rather than the merit of policy. Obama deserves criticism for his deportations. I don’t buy the idea that immigr. decided the election. This era is about whether to confront a failed economic system or fall for its scapegoats.
@m7pilot Have you ever visited your local county vote counting center to see the signature verification process? They offer tours every day and stream the process live.
Really telling that Antonio’s response to Claire’s question is basically that it doesn’t matter how long it took him to acknowledge a genocide.
I think it absolutely matters who led vs who followed.
