Your coworkers will definitely watch your attire to determine your payscale or outside life. This happened to me 2x early in my career. One time in particular, I was working at a law firm and I wore these MK boots that I got for my bday. SMH
A lot of folks are finding this comical, but I actually overheard a senior manager compliment one of his employees on her jewelry stack and then later go to HR with “concerns” that we must be paying her too much and that there may be pay inequity.
