l am so disappointed in you Ateneo.
You know I have never once been ashamed of my alma mater kase the Ateneo I know and love is filled with people who have a genuine love and care for others and a deep understanding of our own privilege and the world.
Those 16 units of philo and theo classes shaped the way I think today— with a deep sense of empathy and understanding of the nuances of our daily lives. And the desire to do good, for justice, and for others.
But lately I cannot recognize you Ateneo. And this lack of response? This lack of accountability and humility? Tangina mahiya naman kayo. A mother is grieving! Two of your students are dead! Bare minumum na nga yung mag acknowledge of accountability eh.
This is a time of grieving but it is also a time of justice— the fact that it’s accidental doesn’t erase your responsibility here. Ang passive masyado. Take lead naman. These players are under YOUR CARE.
I don’t care about your image right now Ateneo. I care about the families who are looking for something to hold on to at a time when their worlds have been turned inside out. Wag na unahin yang lecheng imahe na yan.
Do better, Ateneo.
call for accountability where it is due. but also allow our community the space to grieve without everyone else turning everything into conclusions and accusations.
those are not mutually exclusive things :)
I hope this is investigated thoroughly.
I also hope we can give families, friends, and our community the time to mourn this loss.
And I understand that it’s natural to speculate, but let’s leave that to the people who have the capability and authority to make such claims. Speculation, even with convincing potential explanations, is still just speculation.
All I will say is: you must investigate this throughly Ateneo. Not just this…but a larger potentially problematic practice that needs to ge revisited.
