USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
Thanks to @alarmy_official I actually have to get out of bed to scan my face wash in bathroom before alarm turns off… still not a morning person, but I actually get up on time lol
@mzlanye3@Payactiv @mzlane3 Have you already filed a complaint with BBB against @Payactiv? It definitely helps to hear from them sooner. Also, I've filed complaints with FTC, CFPB, and California Attorney General. Let me know if you need help to file a complaint.
@HerbG3 @Payactiv @HerbG3 Have you already filed a complaint with the BBB? If not, let me know and I can help. I've also filed a complaint with California Attorney General, CFPB, and FTC against @Payactiv
@Payactiv Thanksgiving doesn’t have to break the bank, but repeated payroll deduction errors sure do. My tip: Make sure PayActiv doesn’t overcharge you, so you can actually enjoy the holiday stress-free. #ThanksgivingOnABudget#TransparencyNeeded
@Payactiv@Juanitastarberr I’ve also used your app’s chat support but only get vague responses with no resolution. Please prioritize addressing this issue fully. Transparency and accurate communication are the least I expect. #PaycheckAccountability
@Payactiv@Juanitastarberr Hi @PayActiv, I’ve already emailed your support team multiple times (Thursday included) with all the requested details regarding three separate incidents. The partial refund I received doesn’t match the total amount owed, and my questions remain unanswered.
#Payactiv Live the life I earned? More like, live the life they overcharged me for. @PayActiv, the OG of taking what I already earned. 💰 #BudgetAndPray
@Payactiv I like to use the chat to try and get my money back that @Payactiv stole from me.
Although, right now, seems like the C/S rep is doing other things.
