Foundational Beliefs of Big4 Managers:

1. Don’t discuss people by names. They are a ‘resource’. Hence they aren’t deserving of any empathy or humanity.

2. If a project requires 10 people, 4 should be allotted on it so profitability can be increased. If resources have to work till 10/11 PM everyday, so be it.

3. If any person is able to leave around 6/7PM, it means he has not been given enough work and can be squeezed a lot more. Mock people leaving on time as serving ‘half day’.

4. Interns need to be given ‘crazy workload’, ‘unrealistic timelines’ and be ‘humiliated’ during reviews as it ‘builds character’ for their future.

5. Give work to executives on Saturday night, and expect it by Monday morning, so implicitly they work on Sunday as well.

6. “Hamare zamaane mein…” work culture was brutal so GenZ must also be treated in the same way. Constantly bitch about how GenZ isn’t ‘hardworking’.

7. Create an atmosphere where juniors feel shame to leave office before seniors. So even if they have no work, they just sit till late night.

8. Throw around the word “Urgent” casually with everything to create artificial timelines and make everyone’s lives miserable.

9. If a person had a good Sunday, point out how you were working. And guilt-shame people for enjoying their legitimate holiday. Work is virtue and enjoyment is sin.

10. Manage with ‘fear’ and not ‘respect’ of your colleagues. They should fear when you are visiting the office, when there’s a review or when there’s a one-on-one meeting.

In a first world or European country, Rajiv Memani would be behind bars. But instead he will go on TV panels and give gyaan about 'work-life balance', knowing fully well, the reality of the work culture in the organization that he is leading.
