Krigen i Gaza har for længst passeret alle rimelige proportioner, skriver otte biskopper i en fælles udtalelse. De opfordrer samtidig regeringen til at lægge pres på den israelske regering. 🥰🙏

Krigen i Gaza har for længst passeret alle rimelige proportioner

Vi ser med forfærdelse på den forværrede situation i Gaza og Israels tiltagende fremfærd på Vestbredden.
Vi opfordrer derfor den danske regering til at lægge pres på den israelske regering til at efterkomme de mange internationale krav om at indstille krigshandlingerne i Gaza øjeblikkeligt og samarbejde om at få mere nødhjælp ind i Gaza.

Vi støtter de kraftige protester mod de fortsatte og ulovlige bosættelser i de besatte områder og støtter bestræbelserne på, at forskellige befolkningsgrupper - herunder kristne - der har en lang og legitim tradition for at leve i Israel og de besatte palæstinensiske selvstyreområder, kan leve fredeligt sammen.

Vi opfordrer til, at alle nødhjælps- og civilsamfundsorganisationer samarbejder om at afhjælpe den akutte nød og på længere sigt for fred og forsoning, og vi opfordrer til, at Hamas straks frigiver de kidnappede gidsler.

Vi afviser den såkaldt kristne zionisme, der bruges som religiøs understøttelse af illegale bosættelser og fordrivelse af ikke-jøder fra de palæstinensiske områder.

Vi appellerer til, at vores egen og andre landes regeringer anerkender palæstinensernes ret til frihed og retfærdighed og retten til at blive inddraget i opbygningen af en varig fred med staten Israel, så både palæstinensere og israelere kan leve et værdigt liv.

Vi tager på det kraftigste afstand fra ethvert misbrug af religion til at begrunde overgreb på mennesker - herunder krigsforbrydelser.

Vores tanker og forbøn går til alle ofre i denne konflikt – herunder det kristne palæstinensiske mindretal, som i årevis har arbejdet for forsoning, retfærdighed og fred.

Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.
