See ehn, i don't think going on dates is a realistic sustainable concept in this Nigeria if we're being honest.

People like to act as if dating in this country is just the movie type “hey, let’s grab coffee and talk” type thing, but deep down, we all know that's not how it works on this side of the globe.

Most times, this thing we call "DATE" in this Nigeria actually consists of us buying movie tickets, food, drinks, paying for games, takeaway, paying for UBER (for convenience purposes), buying shawarma or ice cream after,
and maybe one or two other expenses you'll forget to calculate before leaving the house.

And let's be honest, bulk of the money being spent most times falls on the man because our dating culture expects the man to do the chasing and footing of bills, especially at the early stage.

I'm not even blaming the women sef because the economy is actually affecting everybody. Soft experiences are very expensive now, so outings have now become some form of escape for them, from everyday stress.

In the end, the truth still remains that, romance in Nigeria is now financially performative. If you no get money, you no go fit "express" love.

Men these days are not avoiding dating because they hate commitment or women. Some of them are simply calculating the sustainability of it.

Because if every outing is draining a serious part of your income, eventually your brain will start treating dating like a subscription you can't maintain for a long term.

To even make matters worse, you can go on multiple expensive dates with some babes and you will still not know how the person thinks, how they communicate, how they behave under pressure, whether both of you genuinely enjoy each other without spending money

Sometimes the environment is the thing carrying the relationship more than the actual connection itself.

That's why back in the days, some of the healthiest relationships we used to have with babes were built on the simplest things like long walks, gisting inside car, sitting outside at night...

For me, if you no go like chat me for WhatsApp for a period of time to get to know me, at the very least... just forget am.
