For Renee Nicole Good
Killed by I.C.E. on January 7, 2026
by Amanda Gorman
They say she is no more,
That there her absence roars,
Blood-blown like a rose.
Iced wheels flinched & froze.
Now, bare riot of candles,
Dark fury of flowers,
Pure howling of hymns.
If for us she arose,
Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief,
Crouches our power,
The howl where we begin,
Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater
Of the worst of what we’ve been.
Change is only possible,
& all the greater,
When the labour
& bitter anger of our neighbors
Is moved by the love
& better angels of our nature.
What they call death & void,
We know is breath & voice;
In the end, gorgeously,
Endures our enormity.
You could believe departed to be the dawn
When the blank night has so long stood.
But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone,
When they forever are so fiercely Good.
@createcraig@HannahFNYP@Matt_Fischetti There are 3 women in my life who I call aunt and have since the day I learned to talk and none of them are related by blood. This is such a bullshit nothingburger.
@SurvivingGrady It is insane that I can remember this day more clearly than most of the other days of my life. (I remember a lot of us thought Derek Lowe was getting traded and then....boom.)
@FrankConniff I actually saw this when it came out at the movies, and was with the right crowd because the place was packed and people were just roaring. It's so silly and so much fun.
@DC_Draino@RepKeithSelf You aren’t a woman. Don’t thank him for disrespecting a woman an in the name of prejudice. Thank you @WilliamKeating for doing the right thing.
New York Dolls, live on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” years ago. Rest In Peace, David Johansen. A true original and one of the smartest, coolest guys in music. #DavidJohansen https://t.co/QQYGT5chF3 via @YouTube
