Funny enough...Luffy didn't actually eat anything, it's just his way of rationalizing it. He thinks the food he ate before the fight is stored up, so he can tap into it..Luffy Logic & it fits perfectly. It's very consistent with him 😭😭😭

I really like this little detail Oda made clear through Gaban's dialogue.

It confirms that everyone around Roger has been helping Luffy for one simple reason: to fulfill Roger's dream.

That's why they always talked about Roger when they met Luffy, not Joy Boy. They weren't following some prophecy. They're not helping Luffy because destiny says they have to.

They're helping him because even after more than 20 years they're still loyal to Roger and want to see his dream come true. They wanted someone to finish what their captain couldn't.

And I think that's important because with all the Nika, Joy Boy and prophecy stuff, that feeling of freedom was starting to fade a bit. This dialogue shifts the focus back to the characters' own will.
