id is one of those studios that should be untouchable. Decades of history and great games and expertise which have shaped the industry in ways you wouldn't think of
Remember, Call of Duty was built off id Tech 3.
You should never, EVER, layoff that kind of talent
Probably cuz TDA didn't sell a gazillion copies at day 1, if this is what's required for games to survive according to big publishers, then the AAA games industry is effectively doomed.
id software is the video game equivalent of The Beatles. they didn't just basically invent and perfect the entire genre of the first-person shooter, but through their insane innovations in 3d graphics tech, they pretty much invented all of modern video games as we know them today
Best case scenario: IP manager like Halo Studios, to coordinate future Doom/Quake/Wolf games with external studios, can still grow back in size to handle core development.
Worst case scenario: support studio and Activision gets in charge of future Doom games.
FUCK MICROSOFT
En 10 años id Software se casca:
- 3 juegazos que definen el fps moderno.
- 2 + 1 DLCs tochos.
- Motor propio (id Tech) top, optimizadísimo. Ahorra licencias a estudios amigos (MachineGames con Indiana Jones y Wolfenstein).
Microsoft: estáis fuera.
Da que pensar.
DESTROY AI AND DATA CENTERS
THE FUCK YOU MEAN YOU TOOK 400,000 PEOPLES POWER IN EXTREME COLD SO FUCKING DATA CENTERS COULD CONTINUE USING THE ELECTRICITY YOU POS
No.
Fucking.
No.
This is unnacceptable. We do not have to cave to these fucking greedy psychos who wanna use up all of our electricity and water just to spy on us and replace us and feed us fucking slop.
Fuck these people. Fuck data centers. Fuck AI. FUCK THIS WHOLE SYSTEM!
look at the amount of "Lead" "Principal" and "Senior"
this is all legendary talent and they're all getting fired because the degenerate subhuman microsoft c-suite think they can save some extra cash by replacing them all with fucking AI
Union promises to take "all necessary legal and contractual action" to fight for laid-off workers as impacts on Blizzard, id Software become clear

Gamesbeat: "The cuts came as id’s team was toying with different game ideas including a John Wick-style original game called Fury; a new game in the Perfect Dark franchise; and a multiplayer/co-op version of Doom. It’s not clear which game, if any, the remaining team can do." https://t.co/xjsTSlNnFe
No better encapsulation of the problems with the game industry than the studio that made arguably the greatest modern triple A single player FPS games loses half their staff for “cost cutting layoffs”
