@ThethPanjabi Brings up an interesting point - should each person get one equal vote or should the rich (land owners/urban businessmen) vote count more? 😄
@ThethPanjabi From a pure demographic perspective - this is correct.
From a land ownership perspective - this is flawed as others have pointed out.
However take a look at the arable land history of united punjab..it was about 1/4 of what it is not in 1800….
@ThethPanjabi Went from 5million acres to 10 after canal colonies and ~ 20 now..
Farm land wise - What we lost was a byproduct of canal colonies that were largely allotted to Sikhs
@ThethPanjabi Much easier to donate/visit a baba than live with morals (in hukam) 😄
They have always been deeply rooted in Punjab - Sultanis, Sufi pirs etc.
@ParamjeetBerwal jatt/rajput chaurdrys held political power at a local level - Mitha Dhaliwal (head of dina-kangar whose descendents helped guru gobind) was famously propositioned by Akbar for this daughter..
@ParamjeetBerwal this is not a valid comparison - sikh gurus has very little political power during their time - population of sikhs was anywhere from 10-25k.. less than .025% of punjab...why would mughal's even proposition the guru's?
@ThethPanjabi 100% - most sikhs have no idea what sikhism is - outside of 5 ks or repeating gurbani that they don't understand.
its all rituals - the exact thing guru nanak tried to dismantle.
ask anyone about hemkunt - while they repeat that pilgrimages are meaningless daily in japji :)
@ThethPanjabi this is true - but its also shocking that some our earliest sources of history are outsiders (chach nama, al-biruni, chinese monks) outside of panini...surprising that we don't have any local surviving documents outside of religious texts.
@ThethPanjabi@Fasihrayeen Rise of fundamentalism in 79…..Pakistan coup, Iran shah overthrown, takeover of Mecca by radicals….seperate events - but led to Wahhabism ideology taking over
@ChanniKalakme good observation - most converts to islam did so due to sufis helping clear out new lands for the farmer classes (jats, rajputs, etc) not to get away from caste hierarchy.
@ThethPanjabi This is great if that’s the case…fluidity between Sufis and Nath jogis is rarely discussed these days.
Ranjha a Muslim becomes a jogi without batting an eye…puran bhagat - primarily a jogi kissa was used by Sufis allegorically
