• Plastic & Solid Waste: The river sees hundreds of tonnes of plastic waste daily. Recent clean-ups in Varanasi alone removed ~1,000 kg of polythene, plastic, and other debris from ghats before monsoon.
• Water Quality: Improvements under Namami Gange mean many stretches now meet bathing standards for pH, DO, and BOD (especially in Uttarakhand). However, challenges persist in stretches like parts of Uttar Pradesh (e.g., around Kanpur and Mirzapur), with high coliform during events and ongoing sewage/municipal gaps.
