The #Bears stadium situation doesnt have to get political
Regardless of which way you vote
The fact is that if IL wanted to,
The Bears could pay $2 Billion
Property tax could be exempt
Infrastructure covered by sales revenue
Ask yourself what else is holding IL back then?
@extramicrowave $0 tay payer dollars
$2 Billion from Bears
Infrastructure paid by sales revenue
Property tax exempt for a publicly owned stadium for public use
Theres no reason to use tax payer money and Bears arent asking for that
@BillHecht74 The point is this is how the infrastructure can be paid without tax payers money.
Look im just a Bears fan who wants the Bears to stay IL and for IL to give the Bears what the other 31 teams in the NFL get without it affecting tax payers. Its very possible & shouldnt be an issue
@NationalAnthUSA@jack_bfr I agree I think its a bluff for now but at some point it could become a reality if IL doesnt stop playing games. Theres no need to drag this out any longer
@BillHecht74 Publicly owned stadiums get tax exempt from property taxes but the Bears can still get the revenue shares.
Thats what IL was working on but didnt get the chance to finish.
Its also what Brandon Johnson has suggested for a stadium in the city.
@soudipop@TraceyRyniec Its an NFL team. They bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the city and state theyre in. That revenue can used to pay for things like infrastructure. IL can make the stadium tax exempt. But IL would rather the Bears keep renting from Chi so they can control the revenue shares
@BillHecht74 Bears didnt get anything yet and yes Bears are a money making machine. They bring hundreds of millions to the state which is exactly how things like infrastructure can be paid for without using tax payers money…
I dont think IL should use tax payer money and they dont have to
@BillHecht74 So by your thought process, if you won the lottery worth hundreds of millions you should pass on it but yet keep buying lottery tickets?
Thats what the Bears would be doing by continuing to rent when they can own.
Bears dont need a handout.
@reesetheone1 Bears arent asking for hand outs from the voters… the IL politicians have a choice.
IL can either take less of the revenue shares Bears bring to the state in order to have infrastructure paid without tax payer dollars OR use tax payor dollars
@DillonFillionIA Yes and to me the statement about Hammond from the Bears isnt an official statement leaving Illinois as much as it is a call to action for the illinois residents to voice their opinion about those in office in IL. Especially with voting coming up.
@the_goffense The stadium isnt leaving Chicago.
The Bears have been trying to get a stadium built for 5 years. They wanted to build a new stadium in Chicago.
They were told to focus on beating the packers.
Why are you not mad at the state of IL for continuing to allow this to happen?
From the Editorial Board: The inability of Illinois’ political leaders to get their act together so as to put an alternative on the table in the face of Indiana’s aggressive move to poach the Bears is a stinging indictment of this state’s politicians. https://t.co/nUvgBTrViP
@wischlist No, If they are going to stay in Chicago they should build where Soldier Field is… but Chicago doesnt want to split the revenue with the Bears. This is why Bears wanted to go to AH but IL is making it difficult on purpose. IL didnt do anything until Indiana got involved
@maisonlongan For Buddy below since he wont allow commenting
Bears havent left “Yet”
IL politicians have not tried to do this yet.
Any money taken away from the millions in sales revenue created is less money for illinois
IL/Chi want to control the Bears and keep them renting for their $$$
@maisonlongan Illinois politicans can make a stadium deal that does not take tax payer money
The problem is that if they do, then IL receives less money. Greed. Power. Control.
They want the Bears to continue renting from Soldier Field. They dont want them to take away their sales revenue
This is the accurate info! I encourage all who are interested in this subject to read up on how all 32 NFL stadiums are funded, which teams pay property tax and why 28 dont, How infrastructure costs can be paid for by revenue ect… it doesnt come from tax payers
From a straight business choice, the #Bears should go to Indiana. For those of you idiots still believing they are protecting tax payers, the #Bears wanted property tax certainty (like all other businesses who build here) and help with infrastructure because they cannot build roads legally. Infrastructure is paid with bond issuance, not taxes dollars that can be recouped with a tax on event sales. They were paying for their entire stadium. Every day Illinois should thank California for not being the worst state in America.
