@nathannotforyou Thank you Nathan for all the precious time you dedicated to our fight! Your partnership has been invaluable. Thank you for sharing our story and standing up for environmental and racial justice in Dallas. 🙌🏽
and now the hard part.
i’m not good at goodbyes so i’ll just say, see you later. you’ll always have my heart — i love you so much.
be well and, as always, talk soon Dallas. 🖤
i followed janie cisneros (@SingletonUnited) as she tried to start the process to shut the GAF factory in W.Dallas down. residents have said for years the plant’s emissions are dangerous.
cisneros was ultimately denied. she’s still fighting today.

i’m in West Dallas tonight to hear from some of the candidates vying to represent D6 at City Hall.
The theme picked by @SingletonUnited?
Environmental justice and the decades-old shingle factory in their neighborhood some residents have been trying to shut down for years.
The EPA hosted a community meeting to gather residents’ feedback on its proposed plan to remediate the former Lane Plating Works site, which produced highly toxic chemical waste. Residents are more concerned about what’s going on with their health.

A perfect example of harmful legislation coming to haunt us at home.
But, importantly, it’s also a city ‘obeying in advance:’ handing over power when they could stand up and fight for our communities.

Did you know that the life expectancy of people living in Highland Park, TX is 90 years while the life expectancy of those living 15-minutes away in South Dallas is 67 years? How is that even possible? We know how. But that doesn’t make it right. People deserve better.
Cisneros asked, “How many times do you need to see the data over and over again about the tremendous amount of benefit that could come to the people in this area if you shut down one of Dallas county’s top polluters?

Residents living near the former site of ‘Shingle Mountain’ have pressed City Hall to help protect their land since 2019.
The Dallas City Council voted to delay rezoning the area — again. The zoning change could limit future polluters from moving in.

‘The community is my boss’ is a frequent hot air comment from D6 Councilman Narvaez. Yet, he refused to take the action the community demanded - amortize GAF. Now SB929 is also holding up justice for Floral Farms. Industry took action, our D6 rep didn’t.

“They were told to trust the process, to engage the process, and they did for years without fail. It’s on the council to then demonstrate that when members of the public engage with the city and follow processes that they create to resolve problems.”

Texas environmental regulators warn that Dallas County could be violating revised air quality standards. State officials are scheduled to decide in mid-Dec.

“We know in the @CityOfDallas this begins with addressing major polluters like #GAF and #TAMKO, which have significant impacts on the counties nonattainment status" Caleb Roberts, Director Downwinders at Risk @keranews@nathannotforyou https://t.co/88eKxZ8RII
GAF lies about their harm to residents and workers. Every day the @CityOfDallas fails to act on the closure of GAF is another day of perpetuating environmental racism & health inequities in #WestDallas. #GAFsGottaGo@SingletonUnited@CBSNewsTexas https://t.co/wJh1mJaTBc
