I think another point in this whole discussion about piracy that isn't being brought up is that right now, the ONLY way to preserve video games is through piracy and emulation.

Between delistings, drm, even buying a game physically isn't really "owning" it anymore, and ofc discs degrade over time, piracy and emulation is the only way to both own your game and preserve it for future generations.

Of course if you only see games as products to be consumed like fast food this might not seem important, but for us video games are art that represents the culture of the time, so it's highly important we're able to own and hold onto them.

The idea that when I have a kid I can share the games of my childhood with them even if they aren't legally sold anywhere or when the 2nd hand market overcharges for 20+ year old discs is something I think is very important.
