I really hate that people are really chalking the Gundam Rouge Orbit discourse to "Heh, these chuds really hate new things!" When that's not really the main issue at all.
The REAL issue is that so far it appears to be an insincere attempt at a "Gundam" game.
@DTitan111 Usually I support those who are against people who get up and arms over something as little as a strange design or something as petty as another AU, but what's frustrating is that it's more than that and I think it sends the wrong message to Bandai and everyone else in the-
@DTitan111 Despite my grievances, I was up for letting them cook at first until people started to act really ignorant about this whole situation, ngl.
At this rate, my issue is less about the game and more about the bull others want to make up for the sake of toxic positivity.
I've seen Twitter users and Gunpla builders make intriguing concepts for aliens in Gundam.
This feels more like a Pacific Rim and Armored Core love child, which isn't a knock on either of them, they're great...
However, that's not what Gundam is.
The designs we've seen so far aren't intimidating either. They're as bland as the Gundam itself.
There are so many ways they could've added some flavor to such a concept, but just like the Gundam, they present it in a very lazy manner.
I feel that despite the reactions being the same, the discourse for each is rooted in something different.
One is disliked because it simply looks bizarre to some.
The other is disliked because the design (and frankly the concept as a whole) feels lazy.
Hmm, Gundam fans upset over the design from the new game cos it doesn't feel like Gundam.
Feels a lot like the same conversation we had last year over GQuuuuuux, huh?
...on an unrelated note, the GQux mecha designer won a prestigious award for their designs! Isn't that nice?
@pholyphonicOD I believe that there is more to explore, it's just that for a franchise like this, we need more ideas that aren't as shallow as a desert water hole.
@pholyphonicOD The question you've proposed was a good one.
Even we don't know if Bandai has a good understanding of what we as fans expect from this franchise. Sometimes they hey the nail on the head, but on other occasions, it feels like they're thinking about the wrong franchise entirely.
@pholyphonicOD While Gundam is inherently a war franchise, I'm not opposed to new settings, as long as it doesn't look generic.
I tolerate the ELS from 00 because they actually felt Alien and it fit the more realistic aspect.
The aliens we see here just appear to be simple giant monsters.
