KIDNAPPED STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN OYO STATE RESCUED FOLLOWING, SURGICAL INTENSE AND WELL COORDINATED OPERATIONS IN OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK AND OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY
1. Following an intelligence-led carefully planned and executed operations, on 10 July 2026, troops of the Nigerian Army, led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, *Major General CR Nnebeife*, in collaboration with special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) specifically the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC),the Defence Headquarters with Special Forces elements from the Nigerian Army, Navy the Air Force and the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies as well as local vigilantes/hunters/Amotekuns, in a well coordinated operation rescued a total of 44 pupils and teachers kidnapped by terrorists from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on 15 May 2026.
2. The operations, which lasted for more than a month, focused on identifying the terrorists kingpins that masterminded the kidnapping, bursting and dismantling their networks and logistics links, including their informants and hideouts located within the Old Oyo National Park Forest, Oyo State.
3. As part of the operations, multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other locations across some States in the Country. These arrests completely disorganized the group, exerted overwhelming pressure on them and ultimately led the terrorist group to *unconditionally release* the pupils and teachers. Further operations are to be conducted.
4. It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces.
5. The pupils and teachers are currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital and will be handed over to the Oyo State Government in due course so as to be reunited with their families.
6. The GOC 2 Division wish to on behalf of all the participating agencies most sincerely and respectfully thank and appreciate His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for the Strategic Guidance, Support and for all the provisions that made the operations a huge success.
7. The GOC also wishes to once again thank the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde and indeed the good people of the State for their continous support to security agencies especially during the trying period.
8. The GOC also appreciates the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Hon Minster of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and other Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police and the Directors General DSS and NIA as well as Heads of other Security Agencies for their support and for the opportunity to relate directly with all the security agencies to ensure a seamless coordination and execution of the operations.

JUST IN: After two people climbed to the top of the Empire State Building and unfurled a banner on top of its spire Wednesday afternoon, one of the climbers appeared to propose to the other. https://t.co/ngG3jOeTBU
Have you ever thanked God for your look?
For some of you, the favours you get is all about your look. People are just happy to have you around. Beautiful people are the salt of the earth.
The Department of State Services has closed its case against Nasir El-Rufai over alleged wiretapping. His lawyers seek a review of his bail terms, claiming he has met all but four, and challenged one condition, saying he knows no Level 17 civil servant who owns property in Maitama or Asokoro.
It was a pleasure to receive a delegation from the International Republican Institute (@IRIglobal), a non-profit, non-partisan organisation dedicated to advancing democracy around the world, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
Our conversation focused on the democratic journey in Ekiti and Nigeria, the importance of credible elections, and the imperative of strengthening institutions that guarantee transparency, inclusion, and peaceful political competition.
I remain convinced that democracy is strengthened when electoral processes command public trust and when political actors conduct themselves with civility and respect for the will of the people. I wish the people of Ekiti a peaceful and successful election.
The entire political architecture of Ekiti State appears to be on the same page as the state heads into this weekend’s elections. It is commendable to see virtually every former Governor, regardless of political affiliation or past differences, rally behind BAO.
I have never seen this kind of thing before. Whatever strategy, influence, or jazz BAO is using, I must admit I envy it.
The biggest winners in all of this are the people of Ekiti. Political stability, continuity, and a united front for development are rare in our political space, and Ekiti deserves commendation for achieving that.

My first political crush was the former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adunni Olayinka.
I loved her so much. ❤️
When she passed, it felt like my heart cut. 😭 I followed the entire week-long funeral procession on TV from beginning to end. I was in Ekiti at the time, and my dad indulged me.😅
When they announced that residents should come out to pay their last respects as her body was being brought into the state, my dad and I went. We stood by the roadside, waiting, and watched the vehicle carrying her coffin pass by.
That still wasn't enough for me. 😭
My dad then found someone who knew the family, and we went to her parents' house to pay our condolences. I told them how much I admired her, I think I even wrote a message in the condolence register.
My dad looked at me and asked, "Are you okay now?" 😅
We couldn't attend the actual funeral, but I streamed the entire service on TV. Every single part of it.
I loved her gan o.
In fact, I added Adunni to my name in 2013 because of her. I literally named myself after her and have been bearing it ever since. 😂
I've had other female political crushes since then, but none has ever had me in such a chokehold. 😅❤️
President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to build Nigeria’s largest industrial and free trade zone at Olokola, Ondo State, with construction expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026.
The project will provide dedicated power, water, gas, and logistics infrastructure to attract manufacturers and remove major business bottlenecks. It will also include investments in power generation, cement production, and gas infrastructure.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa welcomed the investment, describing it as a major step toward Ondo’s industrial transformation. The state government has set up a technical committee to work with Dangote Group and pledged full support for the project, which is expected to create thousands of jobs and boost economic growth across the region.
As an intellectual, public engagement is not only about being understood or applauded. It is also about being tested.
The agreement, disagreement, praise, irritation, dismissal, and even misreading that follow a public contribution all form part of a wider social experiment.
They reveal how people receive policy, where trust has broken down, what fears dominate public reasoning, and which assumptions require better explanation.
In that sense, both the good and the bad become useful. They validate the central lesson of policy governance (and we can all learn from it and be better informed both ways): that sound ideas are not enough. Sequencing, communication, empathy, evidence, and public legitimacy matter.
The public square may be noisy, but it remains one of the most honest testing grounds for reform ideas.
Thank you all for engaging. Happy Sunday!
