Micromanagers stink but it’s terrifying when your manager is so busy staying out of your way that you’re about to fail & you both know it. This 🧵 really captures why mgrs need to balance fostering skills ICs need with creating space…
Every so often I see a Twitter thread where a new manager asks for advice, and inevitably, someone in the comments below says something to the effect of, "hire awesome people, listen to them and get out of their way"
Let me tell ya, this is not advice. It's wishful thinking
Today appears to be spam day for me, I’m getting all the messages. Fun fact: apparently unsolicited texts from political parties is considered acceptable to lawmakers and is exempt from anti-spam laws….wonder why 🙃 #canpoli
Being data-informed does not mean "how can I pull some data to prove that my point of view is right?"
It is, in fact, the opposite: a deep curiosity to know what is really the right way to look at things.

Love this discussion of building process : "Good process creates consistency that removes unnecessary decision-making and helps things move faster. Bad process removes creativity, stifles freedom, and adds unnecessary overheads through rigidity." https://t.co/EM8Z9lyqHm #mgmt
Stages of creating anything new:
1. This is going to be so fun and great
2. Wait...
3. THIS IS BAD, WHY DID I DO THIS, I HAVE AN IRREDEEMABLY BAD BRAIN
4. There might be something here
5. I AM AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE OF GENIUS
6. Nope, this is still bad
7. This is kinda good & fun
"[W]e took a group of employees through a pilot energy management program & measured their performance against a control group. The participants…reported substantial improvements in their customer relationships, engagement, & personal satisfaction." https://t.co/Lx9Gu0wZYX
A welcoming and diverse workplace doesn't give everyone the comfort and space to be themselves. It gives everyone the space to have their boundaries respected.
A workplace has to be professional, otherwise it does not scale.
These suggestions are 🔥, but don’t agree that it’s a lack of caring that stalls PD. I think the lack of focus is a symptom of undervaluing management as a discipline and forcing SMEs to manage in order to progress in their own careers. https://t.co/YLy84h643i #leadership
Does anyone else feel like the writing on #leadership lately is really negative? “100% of leaders stink! YOU MUST read my article to find out what you’re doing wrong!” I know it gets views but 😴
Is it just me?
Why is feedback so ineffective? [B]ecause it’s backward-looking. [This] makes it harder for you to focus on the future, because all you’ll hear about is how you screwed up…not how you should perform going forward.”" https://t.co/zLPLM8qxld #management#professionaldevelopment

@amiridis I think there’s a very clear line between blowing off steam/expressing frustration about real issues, and abuse. If the language is targeted that’s over the line and leaders should step in. It’s 100% okay to be angry, taking it out on another person is not okay (IMO).
